Ten degrees BTDC is advanced enough to cause the lean plug readings. I am surprised it started as easily as it did that way. That still makes me think it may be is supposed to be ten degrees. Good advice on the advance. Too bad it wasn't an hour ago. I tweaked mine a bit already. I have to run help a friend put in a door. Be back at it tonight, I hope.

ok in my mind ...oh boy...it seems this comes in play at setting of dyna or points....I did motice that when setting the dynas on the 1200 F marks there was no problem with the dyna moduals like you can have on 1000 where the the moduals cramed right together is still not close enough to time right ... in fact mine were spread rather far apart when I looked ....ive never had one look like that in 1000s ...I was thinking at the time that the longer stroke was why ...but if the mark is 10 degrees instead of 5 degrees that really explanes it .....

differences ....only two that I see ....longer belt ....longer circumfence in the cranksaft balancer where the crank marks are at ...all pullies and cams spec the same as in size and fit ...

I cant think of one reason if the 1200 mark is 10 degrees as we are thinking now ...that makes sence to me to put a 75-77 cam at 10 degrees and think this is right ..if I could keep comtinuous thought on the numbers .... witch I struggle hard here in this area id try to figure what effect the mumbers says about the difference in travel around crank would mean to degrees in 1200 5degree setting and 1000 setting of 5 degrees ....off the top of my head im thinking about 6 degrees sound like about right ..with my shorted out brain id never be able to get to the answer before meltdown ...

when one side seems to run differently than the otherside its diffinitly a timing thing at the ignition setting point at the very beginning

Joe don't do your head in with distance of travel, belt sizes etc. pretend that there is no adjustment and the engine is set up with the optimal relationship between valve and ignition timing. Because these are timing belt engines that we can adjust valve piston relationship infinitely. In reality there is very little changes to be made from valves opening in the correct position to give maximum compression and savaging of the cylinders . The next adjustment is then when does ignition occur to provide the maximum power with the least amount of latent heat left in the combustion chamber.

First two pics are of plugs when timed at 10' BTDC.

These are the plugs after timing at 5' BTDC, roughly.

They're not as white. I should include I got a close to stock air box on and my mufflers. Sure is quieter now. Sportsters with no baffles still have a good note.

I figured something was up since you haven't been posting much lately. Heal up. I read that happened to another guy years ago, took out a rib, then came woman. My gas mileage is still in the toilet. Maybe this afternoon I can pull the carbs to see if there's anything obvious. I was rereading Steve's posts and he jetted up quite a bit.

id try raising float level first ....one thing ive notice is it like gas ...but icould see no waste anywhere ....raising float level may do quite a bit what im thinking ....that's my next move ....ive had three different carb racks on hooch so far ...they all seem to be sucking the bowls dry ....could be wrong just a feeling I have

What happened Joe??

well in a condensed version ...I was working on a fifty yr old mower and broke a bolt and torque release of that is all it took to wrench my ribs all the way around both sides to the backbone ...my putty cartaledge went out instamtly .....I have to be so measured in the moment to not get hurt daily ...its a hard game to stay on top of ....my ribs go out quite often and heal slow ...cant breath cant sit cant lay down ...but I don't stop easy ......just something I have to live with ...constant breakdown from bad moment of measured response ...the dang mower kept raising the bar till I broke

no....this has been on my mind too tony ...it seems to be constant problem with all three racks in this regard ...im thinking of trying one of the 1200 electric fuel pumps to see if that's might help

That or some sort of restriction in Hoochs fuel tank. I have an old boat tank that I use on the CBRs for float testing ( clear tubing and bowl drain screws open) and synching. I wonder if a fuel tank could be mounted instead of the tank shelter as a temporary testing unit.

several times ive experienced a great runs through three gears on first try as its so wicked and untested as I quit there not the bike ...and it never seems to recover to repeat the same run

So I found out, surprised the crap out of me, that the front end will come up in the air. A guy took off from a light with a 900F and decided to give it the beans.I responded and up came the front end a little controlled wheelie. Fun and my first on a motorcycle. I pulled the forks down in the trees two inches now that I have a fork brace. I could go anther 1/2", but it seems good there. Seems about the same, but shows the rake more.

Here is how it sits now.i got the Magna front fender on. It needed about an inch extensions. It's a pretty tight fit still.

Ride is still stiff in the front end. I could cut another inch off the forks for a softer ride, but I have read that firmer is better in the corners. Anyone know if that's true?

well I don't know it ride but look is nailed to me I like it ...wheelie huh that must have fun thing to have happen as fist for ya .....you have every reason to be full of it over this bike nice job eric ....

hey making mistakes happen to people who do ...people don't do and make mistakes live a life of discounting others mistakes as worthy is not my cup of tea at all ...give me a beer and a hammer stand back  :builder: it might get ugly :smilie_happy:

Darn hard to find competent welders these days. My gas tank has a leak already. I'm firing that last guy and taking it to someone better. I took my old stock 77 to dinner and movie tonight and was astounded at how flexy the stock forks are compared to my hybrid. Hydraulic clutch spoils you real fast too. Before I started leaking I did some plug chops at high rpm. They look great. I still have backfiring, so I opened the plug gap up to around 0.035. I didn't think that would help, but it cured it. Now, where's that good welder?
