When I last left you I had just installed the newly rebuilt forks, new Hagon shocks, and had fitted the rebuilt front brake callipers. Now, the Haynes manual will tell you not to disassemble all 3 brakes at once, as many parts are similar and you might get them mixed up! Pah! I needed to clean and paint all 3 so damned sure I wasn't going to do that one at a time. I carefully bagged the three brakes in individual bags to make sure the parts didn't get mixed up, and that worked, however....
As you can see in picture 1 the nipple is to the rear and the fluid port is to the front. This is wrong. On careful inspection, I realised that whilst I didn't get the individual parts mixed up, I did mange to put the rear calliper on the front left, and the front left calliper on the rear. What a dork! Picture 2 shows what it should look like.
I then fitted the newly acquired second-hand rear master cylinder, filled and bled the whole system (had to re-do the front as well due to the mix up), and now I have a complete, functioning, rolling chassis. Now I can steer and stop, the next thing to look at is the engine and associated paraphernalia, starting with the fuel system.
Ok, so how is the tank looking? Rustier than a rusty thing. I am going to try and clean this through electrolysis, so watch out for the next report!
