Former '82 GL1100 "The Slug"
I am a bit confused as to whether my '82 Standard had a turn signal buzzer or not. I am in the process of re-building the self cancelling system and there seems to be ambiguity as to whether the buzzer was still used. Some schematics show it while other do not.

If anyone has an '82, could you confirm for me if it has the buzzer?

I believe the Oldwings stopped using the loud buzzer like signal flasher when Honda added the self cancel signals. Though there could have been a transition period when they kept using it.

In the '80-'82 color schematic, it shows up. But I have found other differences in this schematic compared to the wiring on my '82 Standard.

Same for the '80-'82 Interstate schematic:

But not in the shop manual schematic:

I suppose the shop manual schematic is the more correct diagram.

Welcome to Classics!

I put a buzzer ON my '83 1100. Took it off a 78 750, my bike doesn't really agree with the factory manual diagrams. It keeps me from leaving them on too long. '83 standard with late '82 build date.

My '82 I discovered about 4 years ago has half an '82 wiring loom and half of an '83.

So basically I just started chopping stuff [sic] out until it did what I wanted it to, I didn't need self cancelling indicators that would only work half the time, I can do that quite well on my own, thank you.

It also had some kind of buzzer to that would only work when it felt like it, so it went too, as did the low rear suspension light.

I think the whole deal is this, all this, is it an '82 or and '83 etc? And when does this annual demarcation actually take place. Personally I think it was whenever the hell they thought they had a new idea!

I got what I want now, but it took following the '82 and the '83 wiring diagrams combined, to get it that way.

Chilidawg, I'm with you, I'm mixing parts between an '83 standard that's posing as an '82 and an '83 interstate built 9 months later. To work on wiring, I look at the wires on the bike first and then look for a wiring diagram to go with it. Putting a tach on with top gear light meant moving the low pressure warning to the h-bars with an LED. On some stuff you just have to get creative.

Got a buzzer from Ebay. The current wire harness on the '82 is actually from an '81. So guess what? The wires are there! On top of that, my headlight ears and headlight are actually from a CB 750 and it has the square hole for mounting buzzer. Hooked it up and initially it did not work. I heard it beep once when the key is turned on so I know it powered up too soon. Pulled the brown wire and only left the gray (comes from handlebars and turn signal relay) and the white wire (which goes to the white/green power from the fuse box). IT WORKED! :yahoo:

But, it does sound like a beeper from a truck backing up. The buzzer that was on the '81 would click nice and loud up to 40 MPH when the sound would change to this beeper sound. I was hoping this buzzer would also click at low speed. It might have something to do with the third wire. On the buzzer it is brown. But brown on the bike is power for the parking lights. The color schematic shows it either as brown or maybe orange going from the speed sensor in the speedo. When I connect the brown wire, the turn signal just goes on and does not blink.

I suppose 2 wires are better than 1. It works for now.
