worked on the carbs,,, might be making a lil more power,,, opened it up in 3rd,, and after it starts buildin up more and more rpms,,, clutch slipped... went back to 5th,, rolled on it hard at lower rpms,,,, no slippage.... think the low temps,, or not riding it for awhile? or should i use an oil additive? Or might there be another adjustment besides at the handlebar? 83a

There is also an adjustment at the other end of the cable, at the rear engine cover. there should be a bit of play in the cable, about 1/4 inch of movement at the hand lever, if I remember correctly...

k,, i've got play,, didn't check,, seemed like around an eighth,, i looked at it,, i can't see where adding more play probly won't help,, im getting more power from my engine,, and first time out in cold weather,,, idk,, better just drive it for awhile,, i guess you can change the plates out w/o pulling the engine,, but the springs,, seem like you would want new ones,, ... Thanx everyone for their recommendations

If you're getting slip in 3rd and not in 5th, it most likely ain't the clutch, more load on the plates in top gear.

Drive it some and it will probably get better. you need about 1/2 an inch of play at the ball end of the clutch lever to have it right.

And yes, you can change out the plates without pulling the engine, new friction plates and springs are widely available.

What kind of oil. All of mine will slip in third gear on car oil. It won't slip in fifth unless you get the revs up pretty high because that's where the torque is. At highway speeds (60-70) torque isn't as high.

Honda makes car and motorcycle oil. One will slip, clearly marked not for wet clutch applications. Not doubting you, just putting it out for others.
