I swapped out a front tire- re-installed. I removed all the brake stuff. Maybe I didn't need to, but it was easier to get off.

Anyway after a the first 50 miles no issues.

the next ride I noticed when i clamped on the front brake and released it the left.caliper grabbed toward the rotor. I could see it move. then when I let go of the brake it sprung back to what i assume is its normal position. It makes a little clicking noise. The right side does not do that. I torqued all to specs presumably. Wondering if the rubber bushings might be suspect....

or

is it some other issue.

any thoughts?

Thanks

Hey Tman!

It is the dual piston. you think one piston is working harder than the other? I have not a clue - yet. maybe they aren't letting go as smooth as the right?

takin a little trip in a couple days would like to figure it out. seems to work fine though.

thanks

wow i had not checked the ref. page here - extensive!

On your '83, the left caliper is operated by the front brake lever, and the right caliper by the rear brake pedal. The rubber boots on the caliper are dust seals, and have no effect on the caliper operation. Make sure the pads are installed properly, with the 2 pins going through both pads.

:head bang: geez i do/should have known that. i can't remember as well as I used to.....

I will check the pins. pretty sure I didn't disturb those, but I will check them nonetheless.

the rubber boot i was referring to is the one at the antidive device - where the short bracket connects the caliper to the device at the bottom. thought if it was gone there would be no cushion against the force, but that is just me speculating.

no symptoms when I left off the brake easy.

no worries. I'm not sure what is up but they work ok. I don't like funny clickin noises - if ya know what I mean. I think I might have just hosed myself anyway. I busted the plastic bracket that holds on the speedo cable. I am going to try and find one tomorrow, but I have my doubts. I was supposed to go on a little 4 day run with the ngw guys. I might have to do my roof instead. bummer.

thanks

i can order one but by the time it gets here - too late.
hopefully there is one layin around a shop somewhere here. i like the older ones they don't have that plastic thingy.

i had planned on doing this for a couple months.....just my luck or it ain't meant to be...
I had to replace the one i just broke cause the bike came with a broken one. duh!

if it ain't one thing its three
