When I turn the right signal on-- the system flashes real quick like a bulb is blown. I replaced the bulbs with new bulbs and still flashes quickly.
The left turn signal works fine and it self cancels.

Electrical is not my bag of expertise and any suggestions appreciated.

Any ground issue I have had has caused the turn signals to not work at all and therefore not blink (fast or slow). For the cost of a flasher, I'd swap that out nest and then go searching if that doesn't fix it.

Clean your sockets for the bulbs... system is seeing enough resistance to flash.. and because it is flashing it is seeing all bulbs as good....

I'm in the "ground" crowd, also. Do all of the bulbs on that side burn brightly while flashing fast, or is ONE just a tad dimmer than the others? A bad ground will do that. Wiggle the wires/harness around the bulb sockets while it's flashing fast and see if that makes any difference. It might just be a corroded socket, too.

Try kicking the crap out of it...that's what I do to either my Cads(they both have this problem intermittently) when that happens.... after a couple of swift jars, they start flashing correctly... :smilie_happy: :builder:

Will a flasher unit let the left side work OK but the right side not work?

Not normally, but it might if you have ONE bulb that is different from the rest in that circuit.

The flasher unit doesn't know left from right. If either is working properly, the flasher unit is OK. A bad bulb or loose/dirty connections (high resistance) will cause no or slow flash. A short to ground or too many bulbs (low resistance) will cause fast flash. Do both right front and rear bulbs flash?

As far as I know, the stock flasher unit ( 3 wire) is designed to flash fast to indicate one bulb is burned out as a visual inductor while riding. I think no flash then means both burned out.

I think I'd try running a temp ground wire jumper to the ground of each bulb one at a time while the signal is turned on. Might help narrow the problem down if one side speeds up or slows down.
Might then indicate a lack of ground or the ground for that side shorted to ground.

Yes both front and rear flash rapidly.

I will try the ground wire to each socket.
The bulbs are the same for the last 30 years. I have not added any new bulbs (led or otherwise) to date.

While grounding each socket I will check for corresion netc...
Thanks for where to start looking. I am missing riding in this 20 degree weather.

As previously stated most flasher units are load sensitive so that when you have a failed bulb the flash faster so that you are aware. There are different rated flasher units that are designed for 2 or 3 bulb or more so that the flash faster when only one bulb in the system stops working. As it is load sensitive this is the main reason that they flash faster when replaced with LED lights/bulbs unless a load resistor is placed in the circuit to compensate. Any bad connection or missing earth will create the same issue as a blown bulb.

Standard flasher on these are the same as a 512 or 552 car type.. and the flasher is in the power lead to the signal switch.. only 2 wires one in and one out... the three wire is the emergency flasher for all signals..
