History: Bike had been stripped down of all of it's body parts, e.g. fairing upper & lower, false tank, seats. Both throttle cables were replaced. All Electrical connections were cleaned and die electric grease lubricated. Instrument cluster was replaced as was the clock face plate. A new throttle control - right grip was installed and several cosmetic additions e.g. chrome etc.

Rebuild and everything works except the right turn signal. Both signals worked prior to this work being done.

The hazard, brake lights, high and low beam headlight, instrument cluster lighting and left turn signal work well.

I have switched the hazard and signal flash unit, they are interchangeable, same out come: Good left signal no right signal. I have removed and checked the actual turn signal light - the bulb is fine as is the socket.

At the turn signal flash unit I have three wires. Lt. Blue, Gray and White with a Green stripe. Putting a meter at this connection with ignition key on: Power at Lt. Blue and White with Green connector tabs. Nothing at the Gray. Turn signal switch for left turn and the Lt. Blue remains the same as does the Gray and the White with Green. Turn signal switch for right turn and the Gray and the White with Green strip remain unchanged however, the Lt. Blue shows no power with right turn signal switch engaged.

Where do I go and what testing should I do to proceed at solving this challenge?

Welcome to CGW. Here is what the 86-Honda troubleshooting manual says on the turn signals, hope it helps solve your problem. Also don't check the resistance on the control unit with a meter as it is solid state and will damage it. Good luck.

I think you can unbolt it on the bottom and pull it down through the stem as you feed the wires down. I got one with the fairing off I will look at tomorrow and let you know. I got one with the fairing on I will also look at.

Can one check the input and output of the cancel control unit via wiring NOT requiring the removal of the fairing?

It took my hours upon hours to finish putting that fairing on. :(

If I am understanding this correctly I wont know the final outcome until the fairing is installed again ???

That's what I'm going to physically look to see tomorrow, sometimes pictures in the book don't show everything involved and how easy or hard it is to get to a specific component.

I took a look at the faired and unfaired 1200's and you should be able to drop the control unit out with the fairing on. Remove the ignition switch cover to get to the wires from the top, there's a black rubber grommet on top of the stem tube right underneath your handlebars and remove the metal shield beneath the fairing between the fork tubes and you will see the bottm of the control unit, I think it has a couple of screws holding it in and a couple of standoffs that the metal shield bolts to. You might have to remove faux tank cover to work enough slack from the wiring harness to feed the wires down through the tube.
