Greetings, all. Tonight I brought home an 81 GL1100 with 51000 miles that's been sitting for 3 years. Summer project! I found this one at a yard sale believe it or not, just about a year ago. I hit the net to research them and became really interested in them for their unique layout, durability, and versatility. I talked to the owner then but we couldn't make a deal. I checked later in Summer and he still had it. I thought about it all Winter. Last Saturday I went by and they were having their annual yard sale again, so I stopped to check and they still had it. This time we made a deal.

It's going to be a big project just to get it running again. The carbs are toast and the tank will need to be cleaned. It's a bit scruffy but so am I. I think the hardest part might be deciding what to do with it. I've seen many great customs giving me ideas. I'm leaning heavily towards making it the kind of bike you'd want for the zombie apocalypse- outfit it with auxiliary battery and alternator, extra lights, rescue tools, dual sport tires, a winch, you get the idea. A Mad Max kind of thing.

First job it to make it go vroom again. I'm going straight for the single carb conversion.

Yes, that is one that inspired me to go that way. I really like it.
