Just got home from another great trip.
Four of us left last saterday from Grand Rapids MI
We went west to the lakeshore and did the typical ride up M22 AND M119 (tunnel of trees) taking our time and spending the first night in mackinaw city just before the rain hit.
Sunday, with the rain settling to a fine mist we crossed the BIG MAC over the straights to the U.P. where we worked our way up to whitefish point shipwreck museum, then back SW to NEWBERRY for lunch before going back north to GRAND MARIUS.
Fortunitly by now the rain stopped and it was a bulmy 50 degrees. And being misguided by an atractive bar maid spent about 25 miles on dirt from DEER PARK to GRAND MARIUS.
After GRAND MARIUS we headed west on H58 to MUNISING which hands down was the finest road I have ever riden, including deals gap.(11 miles of conjestion compared to 30 miles of lonely curves through pictured rock national lakeshore). They just paved this stretch about 2 or 3 years ago and it is a "must do" ride.
We stayed the night in MUNISING before snaking our way through the north woods of WISCONSIN spending the next night in BOULDER JUCTION WI gorgous town surrounded by awsome roads winding around countless small lakes.
Eventually we ended up on highway 61 in MINNISOTA near the birthplace of BOB DYLAN sleeping again in HINKLY MN before charting out a differant, yet just as interesting route back through MN,WI and MI's U.P. stopping one last evening in INDIAN RIVER MI and one last back roads day back home.
All over just shy of 2000 miles with no agenda or reservations.Even with the cooler than average temps, and a couple days of rain coming back trough MN and WI it was one of the best trips Ive taken. Most likely do to the great company.
Tough to beat good friends.
