Any way to adjust the 1100 trunk

I`m putting a chrome guard/bumber around the trunk and when installed the trunk needs a little persuasion to lock onto the rack, The U bolts that secure the guard/bumper seem to be the problem and I would rather not file off the zinc coating on the U bolts if I don't have to.
Even without the guard/bumper installed one of the posts reaches the latch first where as the other needs a hard push so it would seem they are uneven to begin with.
I have looked underneath and am clear of any obstructions so this must be post/latch related.
Any advice?

Not sure if this will help you but I found by chance that my trunk goes on & off much easier if I simply do not use the springs & plastic inserts that originally gave a little bounce to the locking rear posts. Without the springs the trunk locks in much more securely AND fitting the front u-bolts into the chrome squares in the luggage rack is simpler and more direct. Hope this helps; Good Luck.....GMcH
 
Loosen the lock mounts install and then tighten while in place..
