well yesterday i replaced my first car tire on hooch ....was able to get a nankang cx668 165-80-15 quiet ride tire ..all things went well ...got the tire at a tire place ...had to order it ...got it the next day...car tire place mounted it ...a bit fussy beading it...nothing big though....so the modded wheel mounted in just minutes.....im sure the nice fit is a plus in good seal and will hold air great....tire seems a bit bigger than the first one..... with mounting and new valve stem...... it went on the bike in minutes ....cost was less than 70$....hard o beat that.....i dont know for sure but im guessing i got 20,000 miles out of the first one ....it wasnt all done yet but it had 2 plugs in it from nailes i ran over about 4 months earlier....very pleased  it take some pics when i figure out how to post them with this computer im using now ...nice and beefy looking tire...

i have nothing but positive experiences with car tire on hooch..better traction ...better handling....better stopping ...better price .....way better mileage....one of the best mods ive done on hooch bike... :builder:

I use Ride-On tire sealant/balancing formula - recommend this. Liked the video and it seals up to 1/8 inch holes. Prefer this over the Counteract bead balancing system. Never hardens and don't have to put weights on the rim to balance. Have sourced a second rim so I can start using a CT on the 1200. Will have an MT on the second rim for taking riding courses.

Look forward to seeing the photos of the new tire.

Cheers

im going to look that up thanks.....you do know i milled my 1200 rim to use the car tire ...there a thread here on it and also brianinpa also did his rim too and theres a thread on his mod too....i dont suggest putting car tire on 1200 rim without milling it down so it save to mount...if you did get it mounted im sure the tire will harmed ...wheel just to big for car tire without modding it....

Rated for 1100ish pounds and 118 mph (87T).

That's the same rating as the tire I currently have on my bike, but the next one I get I am going to look for something with a little higher speed rating - I don't need it, just like the cushion.

I have a Firrestone M/S on my 1800 and it went on with no problem. I will be looking for a tire that has a more rounded profile instead of what looks like a squarish profile.

Back in the '60s when I worked at my father's garage and we had issues with mounting/seating tubeless tires we would put a steal band around the circumference of the tire, cinch it down so as to raise the outer beads and then inflate and seat the tire. Wonder if this would work instead of moding the rim. Just a thought.

I noticed in the owner's manual for my bike that it recommends the loaded bike weight not exceed the limit(s) of the tires. Interesting statement from a manufacturer.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers

im thinking back in the day ..bikers were using car tires on there bikes in the 50s and 60s....i think when honda went to the 15" rim ..they purposely went bigger ...to prevent car tire mounting ....on the internet it been said it was only 2/1000 difference,,,, this is totally wrong ...its way more than that....so big in my opinion ..it could bust the cord inside the bead of a tire ...making it unsafe ...the bead will stretch much more than the cord rope band will ...and the the cord is the integrity of the tire to the rim....milling the wheel is not that hard ...and can be done by someone with good hands for tools operation ...the threads mentioned show the process well ....
