Im about ready to pull the trigger on a carburetor,i can buy a new in box 34 pict 3 for 70 dollars or buy the same carb dan has for a total of 75 dollars.tell me what ya'll think

Your choice of course but the 2 barrel Dan has is getting a lot closer to being right in jetting. I don't know how much trouble a pict3 would be to jet and adjust right. Also a one brl has only one larger throat. 2brl can run mostly on a smaller primary which will likely get better mileage. Which ever you choose keep us updated and we'll try to help.

Most definately get the Weber 32/32 like I have.
Jetting is sooooo easy to change.

What are the details of this one for $70?
Rebuilt?
Used non rebuilt?
New?

I'm inclined to go with the Weber Tom sells, same one I have but mine was rebuilt from someone else.
Tom's is new for $90 and with used/rebuilt your likely getting one that's worn out.

Dan,the solex is supposedly new.are you happy with your rebuilt unit?i would hate to spend the extra money on the new one

Another thing is from what I've read, guys are having idle problems with the solex. They have to run a fast idle, 11-1500 rpm.
Besides me and Joe know more about the 32/32 weber so we can help dial it in better.

Im leaning way towards the weber, the success you guys have had with is impressive

Im dumping my new 34pict3 and going with the 2-stage Webber this coming Spring. I wish I would have joined this site sooner so I wouldn't have to play the ebay game. I especially like how I've read that the Webber's are easy to tune and re-jet without even removing the carb. That alone is worth allot in my view. I admit that I didn't re-jet my Solex, but I did lean out the fuel mix all that I could and was maybe getting 35mpg while having to drive the bike at high rpm's. Also had a high Idle (1100-1500). In fact, if I could have hung a couple small buckets under the rear of the exhaust-pipes, I might have salvaged 1 gallon of gas from the 5.3 gallons the tank holds!

I just wanted to point out that turning the idle mixture screw toward leanest has very little effect on the fuel/air mixture above idle. Some yes but it is so little that it shouldn't even be considered as having any effect anywhere but idle.
It's an idle mixture screw.

I believe what's happening with your 34 pict is the single barrel is just too much air at idle.
Maybe the idle jet could be changed and get it to idle down better but I think the main problem is the throttle plate is simply too large to cut air flow down enough for a smooth idle.

The weber 32/32 with its smaller primary throttle plate is already better suited to our smaller engine and increasing opening size and air flow of the plate is much better suited because it is smaller.
