Hi Ya'll

Been awhile. Have not ridden / started my 1100 for a couple months. Last couple times it smoked a lot on the left side.
It does mitigate somewhat after it warms up and is ridden but the next day upon start up it does/did the same.
I am wondering if carb adjustment / rebuild would / could cause smoking.

Worked fine (no smoke) before I put a different set of carbs on it. It seemed to me the previous carbs I had on there worked great and motor didn't smoke. They subsequently developed a leaking presumably flort issue so I pulled them and put on this other rebuilt set. they work. I did not use a rebuild kit. Decided to cobb together parts from multiple racks.

Do I have a carb issue? Or could it be valve stem seals?

I know there is a tendency for these to smoke on startup but this seems excessive so soon after a carb. swap. I will prob put the old carbs back on (after I re-rebuild them)to see if there is a difference.

Thanks,

Smoke from a carb issue (rich mixture) will be grey or black, and have that stinging, gassy smell. Valve guides/stems/seals will cause oil burning, which is a blue color. I agree with you about switching back to the other carbs - if there's no smoke, it's definitely carbs.

Mine smokes on startup when I have been using too much ATF in my fuel and it is white smoke. A couple of tanks of straight 95 and no smoke on side stand start up
