Neato!
However...the Challenger is really too short to pull it off, visually...at least for me. And, the Challenger don't look like the Charger. What they SHOULD do is re-create the AAR Cuda with the new Challenger body....THAT would look KEWL!
I remember when the Superbird/Daytona came out....just freakin awesome cars, especially with the Hemi....HOLY MOLY! A buddy of mine had a Hemi SB. Driving on the road @ 75mph, and punch it....and go sideways instantly, with a cloud of tire smoke behind.....oh...the good old days. :crying: 426 cubic inches of ground poundin, fire breathin, asphalt meltin, tire shreddin JOY!!! :clapping: :yahoo:

A little trivia question.....ya'll know WHY the rear spoiler was so tall on the production version of the SB/Daytonas? First one to guess correctly will win....somethin....(pat on the back, and an "ATTA BOY!) :hihihi:

Did it have anything to do with NASCAR?

Hmmmm...not really. If I answered this question, then the answer I'm looking for would be obvious...

No, and NO! :smilie_happy:

Back to werk for me now...

For nearly 30 years the mathematic formula used to determine the exact height of the enormous wing was thought to be a highly guarded Chrysler secret. However, in the 1990s a retired Chrysler project engineer admitted publicly that the height was determined in much simpler fashion: it was designed to provide clearance for the trunklid to open freely.

Found on Wikipedia.

YOU CHEATED!! :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:
But that is correct. The original design had the wing at about 8" tall....but they found the trunk would only open aboot 6"....not good for sales if the trunk is useless. Sooo...they raised the wing high enough to be able to open the trunk lid. At that point, the wing was not nearly as functional as it would have been, but it did still help with the aerodynamics.
And now for your prize....

And now...back to your regularly scheduled thread.....

btw...this info was known way back when the cars were new....it was never a secret, afaik. At least everyone I knew then knew it....but somehow it became something of a mystery.

Pretty cool, I wish they would just make a Charger kinda like the old charger but modernized like they did with the Chalenger. It seems they are stuck on a 4 door Charger that looks nothing like the original.
I feel like my dad with his model T and Studebaker stories but they were out there while I was growing up, There was a guy with a yardfull of them not far from Daytona raceway..Felt bad driving by and looking at them rusting in the Florida sun.

Loose the wing, it would look better.
Nope. I was 8 when I saw a Daytona Charger parked at a Taco Bell, that wing changed my life. After my first car which was a 56 Chevy BelAir I owned 3 Chargers, one was a 500 model. If I ever win a lottery I WILL own a Dayton no matter the cost...and that includes my marriage. :smilie_happy:

~O~

The old Chrysler stuff was kewl....nothing like what they're puttin out now. I had a absolute FIT when the '68 Roadrunner came out. I wanted one sooooooo bad. Would still like to have one. Had a '66 Hemi Charger right after high school....kickin meself these days for ever gettin rid of it. :Doh2:

I think that is the reason they command the big bucks at the big auto auctions. I would love an old school Challenger...
