tire looks great ... cant wait to try it ... :yahoo:

meatier tires and wheels makes Hooch or JYD pop, can't remember which bike this is, I just noticed also you cut down the front fender, I cut my front fender down almost identical to yours when I put Trailer Trash on a diet. Looks good joe, can't wait to hear how you like it. Everybody I ride with running the c/t's say they will never go back to M/t's, they ride better, last longer, brake faster and have better wet weather traction with only a little more effort required to steer or counter steer whichever way you learned to ride. And twisties are not a problem.

Sorry Mike but the dragging iron just looks like he fell off the side of his CT :smilie_happy:

Okay Gerry... beat the mileage Joe's going to get from that tire!

 :smilie_happy:
............ :hihihi:

I LIKE it Joe . that eng. sure has answered some questions for me . but ..... did you use 1000 forks because the 1100 and 1200 forks wouldn't fit ??? I have thought about putting a 83 cast aluminum front wheel on my Trike, but I didn't know if the front Brake setup would work on the 1980 forks , with the 83 front wheel .
looking good Joe .

ok sledge... there was no plan on forks ...when i dicided to do the 1200 front wheel switch ...hooch had early 1000 forks they are compatible with nothing on 78and up oldwings ...brake light is hydro activated not electric ..i like that ...odomiter cable is on opposite side as others ...and there no air on forks ....so to keep things close to original i just threw the wheel down there and went after it ... it barely fit the forks ... it took solid rotors from a 1100 to work as in first move to line up with 1000 brakes ...witch again fit nothing else ... lets see ..i did all the milling of the brakes on the brake calipers ....at this point it was all custom fitting ....i also spread the forks a bit on purpose as from things ive done in the past ...prestressing stuff in a proper way increases strength bigtime .. i actually tried it both ways ...nuetruel and no stress came out very squirrely on front end ....prestressing forks both ways to the outside some put inward pressure on forks making both fork tubes involve in the others strenth ... this proved to be great move ... it was like ptting in stronger springs and bigger tubes ... dont get all over board with this info .. what im talking about is not much but there and big bennies im getting for it ... so there was no plug and play going on here ..its more like rengineered to be better...the fender is 1100 plastic one i took power tools to and fshion a fender nothing special but i had to cut out part of fender by forks as it would rub .. after that i could only go so big with the flimsey fender .....

ok brian ..the biggest disappointment so far was my camera department is barely up to capable retarted operation that went down as i was working on rim ..i was to into getting it done to stop rim work ...truth be known this was quit the rim mod to a 1200 wheel to fit a car tire safely ... thats what i was after ...not get lucky and get tire on without hurting someone ...had seen car tire before and was floored by the guys story he didnt inform the tire person there could be a problem here .... could be my ass ...its totally dangerous ...if someone trick me like that id would dicuss the stupidity of this with my fists adjust a few screws in the head in someone....

this mod can be done good ...there is no chance unlees just bad job is done to hurt the rim ....plenty of meat in rim after mod ....the wheel mod is so custom i can bead the tire with a small pancake compressor and with valve stem in .....

i am going to get pics of wheel cause a pic is worth a thousand words ...in this case the work on rim was a work of art ... so im not trying to hide anything ..just what happen i couldnt deal with timely most could have ...and thats all on me ...ill try to correct this soon with good pics :thanks:

it is a radial 165 80 15 ... brand germax i think ...it was cheapest tire and the one with best looking profile i thought .....V actually made the dicission here and i agreed with him 100% plus the tire was very reasonably priced .... i had no idea i was in the darkside buissness till the tire was already bought and sent to my house .....

so this is mostly a v inspired thread and mod ....and it him who sdeserves all the credit... he just knew i would give it my best shot and pulled the trigger...he kind of gave me the impression that his plans are changing some from the results already seen for his bikes .... :thanks:

Thanks V! I know that a 155/80-15 also works, but is a little harder to get on...

Joe, did you mount the tire at home or did a shop do it on a machine?
He mounted it at home. Modifying the wheel to get it fit. I think six times now.

test ride in and some pics

ok test ride in .. i didnt go real far yet but i can tell you i didnt feel one bad spot and i was looking for something .... back brake wasnt quite up to par yet so went easy on gravel when i left but i could tell it was grabbing better there for sure ..... sheesh hooch was running great ...anyway when i got to hiway .. i went right up to speed over 90 all smooth ..this happens easy and quick with hooch .... at 70 mph witch on my bike seems to be 73mph hooch was turning 3500 rpm on tach ... this all felt great ... i love this gearing ...as far as the tire gose im at about 45 lbs pressure ..it felt great tracked great with no hands and cornered sharp ...though i didnt test it much sheesh first ride ..... wow is all i can say right now ... and nothing to add to down side stuff just wasnt any ..... :thanks:

i just measured the MC tire on the1500 wheeled jyd ...it was 25" too ... so the car tire 1200 hooch is doing the same thing at the road as the stock 1500 wings do ... i have no idea what 1500 gearing specs are and not saying its gead the same in trans to output shaft....but it seems to be a bit taller than stock 1200 MC tire bike ..really not sure there yet ....

for around where i live in first gear ..this seems to be about as tall as one wants....dowhill can get quite speedy quickly...on gravel and hairpin corners at bottom is hard mix no matter how much practice at it....uphill on the other hand is smooth power packed ....on the backroads hooch and the car tire seem to grab hard i could actually feel the tire sink in it seemed ... new tires seem to always feel super it seems ....but if there was going to be a flaw it seems hooch would bring it out ...what happen was instant bullet like travel through the gear ..many small up and downs through here with some cornering thrown in while the up and downs going on ...bike and tire did great ...on the cornering it seemed flawless .. on the backroad traction ..it was the best ive felt .. but my experience is small in tires used really ... but i do beleave in the tread .. the continious rings around the tire mean traction to me and where i live .. give a place for gravel pee or road size a place to go just befor the tire throw it out ...perfect set up to me ... an i could actually feel that working ....they also act like edges that cut deep into the road to produce more traction .... there is a wheel base difference now from the 1100 final ...its longer now hmmm canrember for sure but i think its 3 1/4" over stock 1000 ...anyway this setup seems to corner well ...so im sure there a bit of this in play with the car tire handling ...

on the hiway .... with hooch and this gearing 2 gears and your way pass any leagle speed limit ...90 is so easy to hit ...really cant go anymore than that sanely pass that hooch will be in the wilt down your nerve power to try and stay in it and remain a free man ....as far as the car tire goes it went right up to speed and felt great ...seems the car tire or new tire in general took some very small but noticable vibration away ..im not sure this is tire or wheel base or both in play .. but the overall effect was it got even more smooth at all out running it ...this is where that small amount of hard to discribe vibration was .. ive referd to it as frame stretching like ... so i went through this several times ... and it seemed gone .... curising at 70mph was sweet ...tire felt great and bike was comforable to ride on ...i heard people say goldwings are so comforable there not fun ... well that not the case here ... comfort at speed was great...also at 35 mph in fifth gear is about 1800 rpm .. bike ran great here and had no trouble powering out in comfort ....so the possitives ar adding up in my opinion and i still have no discounts :thanks:
