Here's the deal.

In verifying I'll be insured on Piper's bike's on the Aug ride I've been working with my agent to check it.

He has to verify tomorrow directly with the carrier (Foremost) but it's looking from prior phone discussions it sounds like Piper will have to add me as an insured on his policy.

This is messed up, I don't understand this whole deal.

Ok.....so I borrow my inlaws car and under my policy I AM insured. Of course they too have insurance on the car.
So...same deal here with the bikes right?
I'm insured on MY bike, Piper is insured on HIS bikes, therefore shouldn't I be insured riding his bikes with no changes to any of the policy's?

Bikes are more high risk as far as insurers are concerned. I'm not very knowledgeable on that stuff but with all the variations in policies the only way to be certain is to ask Pipers insurance agent. Since you both have insurance I would think you'd be okay myself.

I have had some very long discussions with my (former) insurance agent about my bike insurance.Mostly related to the vintage bikes licensed as authentic, but non the less...

As far as michigan is concerned, your insurance from your bike follows you to which ever bike you are riding. Not the bike coverage, but rather medical benifits/payments.
Whether or not his bike coverage will cover damage done by another rider is up to his insurance, but YOU are covered by your policy. You are also responsible to make sure the bike you are riding is properly insured to be legaly driven on the roads of whichever state you are in.

As far as riders go,I have a rider on my policy to cover my bikes reguardless of whos riding them but medical benefits are limeted to me as a driver and whomever my passenger may be.

FYI I changed my bikes to PROGRESIVE and brought my rates from $850/year to $450/year for 4 bikes and I have a better understanding of my coverage.Alot of good an agent does me when they do not understand my coverage, while PROGRESIVES web site was very clear and simple.Check it out when you have time.

On a differant but similer note,my wifes car accident almost 4 years ago happened in MO,in a rental car rented in someone elses name, yet ALL her medical bills have been covered under my MICHIGAN NO FUALT auto insurance. No hassles as of yet and its been 4 years ,70 surgurys and nearly $1,000,000 Unfortunitly, michigan motorcycle insurance is not the same.

Hey Dan,
I just switched two weeks ago from Allstate to Dairyland. Dairyland specializes in motorcycles insurance and has been around for a long time, and they have a very good reputation. I would be surprised if you weren't covered but I'll give them a call this week to be sure and if you aren't, I'll see what I have to do to cover you.

Sorry Dan I have no help for your question.
But I do know I need to move down by Tory because Progressive is charging me $378.00 a year and I am the only driver with no traffic violations in at least 10 years.

On the Bike?? I have Progressive, but it is only $76 for the year.

Dan,
I just talked to my insurance company and they said you would be covered with the same coverage I have. They said your insurance should cover you first (liability) and then mine would cover it if your's didn't provided you were properly licensed. (You do have a license right? :smilie_happy: ) They called it the "occasional rider" section and you wouldn't have to be listed on the policy.

Awesome Dave, that's a relief! :thanks:

License? Do we need to have a license to ride a bike? :headscratch:

:hihihi:
Yep I've had my M/C endorsement for 34 years, got it when I was 16.

Dan I heard that you only need a license if you get pulled over by a L.E.O.
And I believe it because nobody has ever asked to see mine.
Also Dan my wife told me you had to be over 55 to ride a gold-wing that's why I had to wait so long to get Stella.
And for you guys with progressive Ins. I was wrong mine is only $368.00 not $378.00 like I thought on Stella from progressive.
I thought my local agent might be scamming me but the bill comes from progressive.

Ouch, $365? For just the bike?
Mine is $78 a year for liability, just the bike.

Yes just for the bike below is a screenshot of charges.
The agreed value it mentions is what I paid for her $3,000.00.

The $175.00 MCCA is what sets michigans so high in comparison to others. It is assessed on every vehicle you insure reguardless of how many. However it is also why we have the best medical coverage than any other state (trust me,my wife has used it to its fullest)

The only exception to the $175.00 MCCA is historic/authentic plated vehicles. They are assesed at 30% in comparison which is why I have 4 bikes insured so cheap.3 of them are licensed authentic.

My goldwing is about $300.00 and the other three are about $45.00/each.
