Late 80s onward wings have large covers over the front disk brakes. Are they just for looks or do they help keep the brakes dry or help with cooling? It looks like they attach to the fender and maybe the brakes themselves. If I wanted to put them on my 81 what would I need? I assume the fender too. I can manage making brackets and mounting points if needed. I wish I could get a good look at a bike with them to see how they mount.

I see 'em on eBay for the 1100's once in a while. I'm pretty sure they're strictly cosmetic, but others here know better than I. It looks like they attach to the fork or brake caliper...

They're mainly cosmetic, though they do prevent stones from pounding your rotors and focus air on the caliper to keep it cool. There is a bracket on both sides held on by the front axle pinch bolts. The cover has two bolts into this bracket and then another bolt that connects it to the lower fork leg at the top, at least on my 1500. I'm sure you can make it work fine with your Wing. I'm not much of a bling guy, but they do look good! :Egyptian:

My idea is to paint them the same color as the rest of the plastic. I don't know if they would look good like that or not. They make the front look more massive. Thanks to your description I'll need the mounting brackets too. The bike needs new fork seals so I figure to try the covers when I get into that probably next spring.

I got the covers today and it seems the pinch bolts are not in the same place as my older one. I'll have to do a bit of fabrication. A minor task. I wired one in place and I do think I like it. I must avoid the temptation to paint and mount them now, I have a manifold to build.
