So i was wondering about putting in a fuel gauge, not sure if this had a float in it before or not, but as much as i like to guess my gas, it would be nice to put on something to help me determine it a little more. any ideas?

The sender and float is in the tank, under the seat, and the gauges (fuel and temp) are powered by a 7-volt regulator. Check eBay for an instrument cluster. The '83 is a bit rare because of the 150 MPH speedometer and overdrive indicator in the tach, but any '80 - '83 will work.

Hey Buck, my only concern on the gauge you are evaluating is the resistance input. I'm not sure but I think that GL1100 fuel sending unit is between 10 and 40 ohms. The electronic gauge resistance input is 20 -566 ohms. :headscratch:

I am not aware what the resistance range is for the GW sender. You would need the sender out of the tank and put it through its paces with a multi meter checking the resistance values. Maybe some one else knows like Jungo!

I also think their description of the meter on eBay is confused with an oil pressure or level meter. You're much better off getting an original instrument cluster. It will have fuel and temp gauges - and the 7-volt regulator to power them, plus turn signal, hi-beam, oil pressure and neutral indicators, speedometer and tachometer. Just MHO...
