On my 81 1100,the po moved the battery under the seat with the idea of using a "real" tank of some sort mounted on top of the frame.question is,are any of you using a non stock gas tank and if so,what kind?thanks

i plan on going that route and have seen all kinda diff tanks used including split fatbobs

haven't run across a nice writeup tho it's prob out there somewhere

I have a set of fatbobs in the garage attic,i havent comsidered them due to the frame rail design, but i may rethink that.thanks for the idea

The larger Vulcan tanks can work with minimal mods. I think ekvh has a high mounted tank but not sure which. Maybe he'll chime in soon.

My amateur hour build is here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4709&hilit=1200+into+1000+chopped

I have seen guys who grafted the Harley saddler tanks on, but without frame mods, they are quite wide. There are a few guys who put one big pipe down down the center and use almost any tank. The Meanstreak tank fits pretty clean. Most will require mods to air intake box which leads to jetting issues. I love mine. All it needs is a single carb setup for a blow-through turbo. Dreaming again.

hmmmmm, never hearda that before

Meanstreak is a great looking tank. All Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 and larger tanks are really huge. Yamaha Roadstar or Roadliner tanks are big as well. Be careful when choosing tanks from bikes that are fuel injected. The fittings will often be too difficult for use in carb bikes.

I believe the Suzuki C109 tank is the largest of all Japanese tanks. Check them out on Google images to see what I mean.

I am making a 84' GL1200 Valkyrie

She is still in the works for this winter.

But here is a picture with the Valk tank on the frame

Valk, has two tanks available, a small and a large, the large are far and few, mine is the small, it is still big enough.

I am also going to put on the later Valk Single seat on this bike

Here is another mock up

This is the same bike 84' GL1200 with a Yamaha/Star tank and older Valk single seat.

This single seat is now on my 86' GL1200, those are 59' caddy tail lights they have 40 leds and look cool when lit up, and are bright

This is the look I wanted for my 84" GL12, smaller Valk Tank and Valk later Single seat.

I like the look of the Valk smaller tank it is 5.3 gallons, so it is not that small, Below is a picture of the smaller tank
99'-01' Interstate (Touring tank) had the larger tank

A bracket would have to be made.
