What kind of gas milage should I expect at 75mph? It would appear to be a gas hog at those speeds.
And then, thats if the speedo is correct. Going to be connecting the GPS soon to check that.
If I should be seeing good gas milage and not which should be the first direction to go in?
Carburetor work? I really have no idea with this one. I also think this bike has an exhaust leak.
Would that affect the milage?

I don't remember as much final drive noise with the CX500 as this has.
Is that a problem with the 84's.

It also heats up to just over half way at those speeds. Normal?

Enjoying the bike immensely so far.

Thanks!

I'm a slow speed rider, but I got the best mpg when cruise at 55-60mph @ 3000rpm. almost 45mpg sometimes more, it depends on wind direction and other factors.

Assuming that you are talking about an '84 GL1200, at a continuous 75 MPH, it should average 42 MPG. The final drive should be silent! (NO noise at all!)

The mileage should be in the 38 to 42 mpg range.
If it's really low, it's probably the carbs /ignition system. Pull the spark plugs and see what they indicate.
The exhaust leak is more of a nuisance than anything else.
The 84- 85 models had problems with the hub allowing the bearing to spin in the hub so put on center-stand and check the wheel for side play, and check for side play in the swing-arm, there should not be any in either location.
Your heat range is pretty normal.
