Well my GL is 15 years old now and i purchased it new . but i only have 41 K miles on it ? Think i need to step up a little and ride the thing more , met this guy ten years ago in Tenn at a MC event , Bike still looks like new and going strong with over 500 thousand miles on the clock , Nothing like a GL . here is the pics :good: https://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index. ... 572.0.html

500k is almost unheard of for any brand or model vehicle. Even the best usually top out about 300k with careful maintenance.

1500s seem tough ...seems only discount is the trans problems some have ...that i ever heard... oldwings are the deal ..when it comes to long lasting :good:
Straight cut gears is the Major complaint on this model .why ? 5th gear wine @ 55 mph..because Straight cut gears are much stronger than Helical cut gears..kinda like a tractor lol ..bullet proof . My Blower wines also . sound like a Kirby vacuum cleaner at 55mph...Kinda like Sammy Hager ...Can't drive 55 anyway 75-135 always

41,000 in 15 years... :headscratch: That's 2,700 per year.

It's hard to rack up mile when you do it 1/4 mile at a time.
lol i really try so hard to ride normal

Japan can sure make a Motor that lasts , I have got a Toyota Camry Wagon I have had for 14 years , the day I got it , the speedo was showing 250,000 miles and the speedo chain was broke , and i have drove it over 14 years , only put a timing belt and water pump on it , never did fix the speedo .... still runs as good as my new Jeep . . Japan motors will Last .

So which is it, does Japan accidentally get it right over and over, or do they intentionally choose not(for a long time now) to engineer "planned obsolescence" into their products? All I know is, when I was a kid "made in Japan" meant low quality and not meant to last.

~O~

Transistor radio's & camera's, were the first of the turn around. Statistical Process Control, learned from us here in America, :hi: (S P C) had to take the six hour course at work years ago.

just reading some of the replies ...made me chuckle ..Made in Japan ,,Most the guys i work with and ride with have 2 cylinder water pumps HD's ,,,lol funny thing was last week the owner of the Corp i work for was busting my ball's on my Jap bike ? He has a $ 38K Ultra CVO ...so i pointed to my GMC van..and mentioned my Dodge Dakota...and my Ford Mustang ? Then we looked at his Toyota 4x4 ? with a smile i said...do you realize that i am a Purist ? he said what ? Valkyrie and all my cars and trucks are Made in the USA ...he walked away scratching his head lol The Honda Valkyrie is a motorcycle that was manufactured by Honda from 1996 to 2003. It was designated GL1500C in the US market and F6C ("Flat Six Custom") in other markets.

The Valkyrie engine is a 1,520 cubic centimetres (93 cu in) liquid cooled, horizontally opposed flat-six engine transplanted from Honda's Gold Wing model, unlike the V-twin engine commonly found on "cruiser" style motorcycles. In its transplant from the Goldwing, the most notable engine changes were the camshaft and the change to six individual 28 mm carburetors, one for each cylinder, changes which increased power and torque.

The Valkyrie was offered with a reverse gear in Japan. The Valkyrie was made in the U.S.A. at the Honda motorcycle plant in Marysville, Ohio.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Valkyrie

I wonder if US models can be refitted with reverse?

Looks like the engine case has a output shaft on the reverse lever model..don't see anything on my US model..Perfect to Trike like any Goldwing with reverse..found a You-tube > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQnh5hTOsHY

The reverse for the Japan market got me thinking was this model Made in the USA or were the reverse models made in Japan, Here is Honda's site..but wtf all my bikes are Japanese anyway at the end of the day, But why not did the US get reverse ? Here is the link , It was imported to Japan ,> The new reversing system is exclusive to the Japanese import model
Both models in the Valkyrie series feature a handy reversing system, ideal for garage parking or maneuvering into tight spaces. Incorporating the same system as used in the Goldwing SE, this feature is unique to the Valkyrie models imported into Japan. https://world.honda.com/news/1998/2981013.html

Strange it was standard for Wing models and models to Japan but not even optional on US model Valks.

Strange deals over there, read that no passenger's allowed, on any motorcycle, even with passenger seat. :headscratch: Have to prove you have a parking spot to house anything you buy, before you can buy it.

Ya know, ? maybe the folks in Japan got the reverse model because we Americans are a little LARGER and can move them around better LMAO ! ok easy on the Fat jokes hahahaa  :smilie_happy:
