It's much easier than doing the opposite! It's easy to run a clutch cable if need be, but I think the rear cover/clutch cover will interchange between an '84 1200 and any 1100. The drive shaft should work fine, since the 1200 uses springs instead of the circlip.
What year of gl1200, since you have an 84 & an 86? The 84 shouldn't be a huge challenge because the ignition system on the 84 is very similar to the 1100s. If you're trying to put an 1100 in an 86, it will get complicated very quickly. The 86 engine is a different animal.
if the 1100 is a 83yr motor there will be a gearing change pre 83 motors have rather tall 1st gear ...this along with the 1200 final makes a rather stout 1st gear to take off with ....other than that it is pretty much just ignition to work as they are different ....if i was doing this and the 1200 motor was bad ...i would also change the clutch from 1200 to 1100...as it is bigger and it also increases oil and water flow to motor by about 12 % ...this was a huge upgrade in 4cylinder oldwing motors
1000's do not have rear ignition....hydro 1200 clutch can work in 1100 rear cover with basket and oil and water pump drive chain and second gear on motor ......it can be operated with cable easy ...the ignition is not a big deal either ...but it does take some smart hands to pull all this off ....
