Hey guys,
I'm brand new to this site and I guess I'm just looking to acquire a base of knowledge of the classic goldwings.
My idea in a nutshell is that I love the look of the '80 to '83 1100's, (without the fairings and all) and the engine specs of the '84 to '87 1200's. What would the major hurtles of putting the 1200 engine on an 1100 frame be? Is it even possible?
Thanks in advance for any input,
~ Matthew

Welcome to the site from New Jersey! :clapping:

There are some members here that have installed 1200 engines in 1100 frames. They will be along soon!

smarty pants toy ..... :smilie_happy: welcome to classic ... :smilie_happy: ....yes as toy said everything he said is true .... there is a current thread right now going on with the motor mods ...read the story of hooch ...your couldn't be in a better place for these questions...... :smilie_happy:

85 and up are almost plug and play. 84 had the pg on the back like the 80-83, heck it might be plug and play. See Joes thread for details. Keep in mind that the 84 has a different starter than the others. Mine is an 85 in a 1000 with 77 heads and cams. It took a hammer massage on part of the frame. It screams! Probably has all the low end grunt of a stock 85 because its lighter and geared lower, but when the revs come up the power comes on.

Thanks for the tips, guys! I looked at Joe's thread about hooch and I guess I missed what the original frame was. Was it a 1000 or an 1100?

Also, has anybody dyno-ed a 1200 with the early 1000 cams in it? I'm pretty interested in the potential gain to be had there!

it was 1000 ...the 1100 is easier with more room and stator problem is not there ....ought to look at ..hmmmm don't know the name of my own thread ....but its a 1100 82 yr ...84 1200 put in it ...they had rear iggy set up like 1100s ...all I had to do is plug and play rear iggy to 1200 motor ...and theres fuelpump mod to do as 1200 is electric and final frive output shaft to mod or switch out with 1100 or 1000 output shaft ...rest of 1200 is all stock ...including heads and carbs ...it all hooks up to 1100 wiring as far as motor gose.....not yet there talk that someone wants to dyno mine ....hooch that is ...my butt dyno is all I need ....its a monster

oh yeah the 841200 yr is the only yr with the rear iggy to plug and play with 1100 iggy and wiring...85 on has front pic ups and has to have early heads or 1200 stuuf on it to work
