Hello! I just bought a 1980 GL1100 STD. It is the red color, It has 7000 original miles, spent every night of it's life in a garage, had the carbs rebuilt last year, and when the start button is pushed it doesn't even turn over, it just fires up. As my last experience with motorcycles was 25 years ago with a couple of RD-400's (I got into Z-cars after that) this is a new deal for me but I've been exploring the forum and can already tell there is much to learn about these bikes. Thanks to everybody out there posting this great info!

Welcome to the CGW forums, kirkwilson!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
Sounds like you found a sweetheart!! We gotta see PICS!!

Welcome from the great state of New Jersey! :clapping:

Thats my story too....25 years no riding, then GL1100! If you have any questions, just ask and some one will be along shorty!

Thanks for the quick welcomes! I'll post pict's as soon as I can figure out how- Ha! I've known the guy I bought the bike from for years and he's a fanatic about everything biking- mainly he's a bicyclist and so was I until I got DVT last year- His wife is the real maniac in fact she was US National Champion (over 40 years old class) 3 times for time trials where you pedal your bike as hard as you can for like 25 miles racing against the clock- He also has a like-new Vespa- Thanks again!

welcome from North TEXAS DFW area.. and congrats on the new to you ride...if you need help on anything here.. ask we shall impart wisdom, advice, opinion and sometimes just plain ol talk.. :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

I'll be getting to know my new ride a lot better this weekend- like I said- I bought this bike from a friend of mine- He's 83 and now he found out he has Parkinson's and he can't handle this bike anymore. I'll post picts asap- Again- Mucho Thankso to all the great info on this forum- Kirk in TN.

Sure- I've been called that a lot- I actually watched Star Trek when it was on when I was a boy- I don't think the live long or the prosper thing is going to happen, though.....

Welcome from another Tennessean. Sounds like you need a little seat time on your new to you ride. Hopefully, when I get mine up and running again, we'll be able to meet up and ride together.

I'm in Crossville. I'd like to get together with some more locals once I get the bike sorted out and a few more miles in the seat- there are some real nice rides in TN- from the Natchez Parkway to the Dragon- keep in touch

You hit the nail on the head about the great areas to ride around here!

When I travel to Crossville, I usually ride Hwy 70 all the way from home to the condo to simply enjoy the countryside.

Take care,

Steve
