I have had my 83 interstate for 4 years and I have never seen the green O/D light on my tack light up is there a trick to putting the trans in O/D I have been on about 8 runs since I got her back on the road.
 
Should come on every time it's in 5th gear. Might be burnt out light or loose wire. Welcome to our world.
