ON a GL1100 is the horn button:

Is there a hot lead to the button? or

Is it a ground lead to the button?

Trying to install a stebel horn on my ride.
The easy to follow directions on the box is not so easy for a person who has no electrical knowledge.

So if any of you have put the stebel horn and know which wires go where.
PLEASE CHIME IN

Wes, I did not play with the horn button itself. I know that I used my original horn wires with the new relay to make mine work. I will take a look at my wiring and get back to you.

I am not going to mess with the button.
The directions on box states to hook up: either

Wiring diagram with "hot" lead to horn button
or
wiring diagram with "ground" lead to horn button

In the box was 2 wiring harness.
1) these wires are a lighter gauge
Black wire
2 red wires
blue wire

2) these wires are a heavier gauge
red wire
blue wire
red wire
yellow wire.

and one loose black wire

Put the volt meter on either side of the horn and push the button with the other meter lead grounded. My guess and it's a guess. I haven't looked at a diagram. Is that horn button is power and horn is grounded permanently.

Earth trigger from the switch
Going down the lg wire to the horn which I assume is either blue green or light green. If you put one side of your meter or test light to battery when you push the horn button it will light up or read. You could also test both wires for power by grounding the meter and probing the wires to find out which is constant power or switched power by the horn switch but in this case I believe that you will get an earth signal from the horn switch

The wire that is connected to the factory horn will be HOT when you mash the button. The horn(s) are grounded to the frame. When I installed my Stebil, I used the relay and wiring that came with it. Ran a hot wire direct from the battery to the relay, a ground to the relay, then one wire from the relay to the horn, and the wire from the factory horn button back to the relay. I have the Stebil diagram here somewhere.... :read:

I checked the 81 diagram and it shows feeding power from the fourth fuse to the horns and the button providing the earth as per the 83 diagram. Maybe someone changed your horn circuit wiring or put a relay in the circuit Joel but the genuine Honda diagrams show earth/negative switching.
Sorry about the poor choice of green to highlight the circuit white/ green wire, seemed like a good idea at the time :head bang:

Wiring diagrams in the gallery say it's a ground (earth) also.
