..How to Add 4" for your passenger seating and the driver's leg extension. Being an all orginal 1981 gl1100, the backrest was to close for the passenger and the seat could not be adjusted back for the driver,(without the passenger complaning about being cramped to close), so i thought i would throw this out there, as to what i did last night to this bike.

This is my starting point for reference..from end of tape to seat 34 inches, starting with the last pic first.

Then I guess by dumb luck, I bought the right year bags and trunk as I bought a set off of an 83. Even then I added additional holes to mount the trunk two inches further back for those times that both of us are on the bike.

Been that way over 5 years and hasn't budged. If I ever need to move back more, all I have to do is loosen the hose clamps and reattach further back. Win-win. :Egyptian:

At the time I was looking hard for an inexpensive 83 rack. This piece was available and got the wheels turning in my head. It suits my needs but I wouldn't have done it if the rack wasn't already scrap. Unmolested OEM parts are becoming more and more made out of unobtainium.
