1982 Gl1100 interstate - 11500 miles. Been sitting for a long time. Runs great - Have to trip solenoid to start. Full dress package. Some lights light all of the time - others only some of the time. Fairing headlight will not come on. (Replaced, still nothing) Ignition Switch?

I'm thinking maybe the starter switch, on the handlebar. That can cause a not start, and no headlight.
Others with more knowledge than me will be along shortly with more useful info. :read:

welcome to the wonder how ican get to it to figure it out ....it sounds like somthing thats not a big deal but icant help you others proably can who have 1100s
im just a second day owner of one myself

The headlight is turned off during cranking to provide the most power for cranking. It's controlled by the start button like AApple suggested.
Which other lights are you having problems with?

Just intermittent problems with other lights. So do you think we should replace the starter button before we look to the ignition?

Not necessarily. Usually cleaning the switch contacts will solve the problem.

as far as the headlight.. run a jumper from the battery to the high and low beams to make sure they light if they don't.. run a jumper from the GREEN to ground.. and test again.. if they light now it is a bad/not connected ground in your fairing.. took me 4 days to find my issue with no headlights.. ...
