i was over at NGW and came to the shizoid thread by eric and his modded 1200 bike ,,seems he has given up on using 1000 cams and 75 heads ...said hes tired of buying premium gas ..interesting did not know he use that ..i do know he shaved the heads a lot on that bike ..kind of goes along with what im thinking on hooch needing premium gas after the copper gasket ordeal where i shaved the block....now hes going with 1200 stock motor and cams ..said he tried 1000 cams and beat up the valves with the 1200 heads now its stock 1200 cams ... but not using 1200 carb rack ...says the motor is just as powerful as modded 1200 motor with 1000 heads and early cams ...his carbs are v65 magna carbies ..there very close to 1200 carbs but a bit bigger i think...the pic i could see the bike looks good just not finished in the pic posted ..says he can get 9000 out of it on test ride thats a lot ...i hardly ever go there its past the power band on hooch it seems

so it seem hooch has no brother bike anymore ...im kind of glad about that just makes hooch one of a kind even more now ..i wanting to ride still waiting clutch master for hooch might be here today ...sure hope so

There is at least one other out there like it... I remember reading the thread over on what used to be the saunders forum. I just don't remember what he named his bike.

i think your talking about super sky pilot bike ..no one knows what happen to it ..last i heard from him was he was going to sell it ...but that been yrs ago ..no one ever seen that bike run ..he like Eric shaved a huge amount off the heads ...if this is the bike your talking about ..the bike did have a name but i dont remember it either ....

it was but ..it had the same problems as Eric bike did ...couldnt get the stock carbs to work good on it ...now that ive got so much compression on my bike im having trouble with the weber carb set up ...that the last thing hooch needed more compression

Superskypilot’s bike runs great with stock carbs and a 147 main jet. They’ll run on any carb, any carbs. They don’t run out of fuel sucking the bowls dry, they pull the slides up too fast starving the AFR of fuel. I ran premium because I wanted to be safe. If I wanted regular or could not get premium, I turned the timing knob back two clicks. I never gave up on the early heads and cams. 1200’s have as much valve lift as 1000 or 1100’s due to different rocker arm ratios.

Next summer, if I haven’t developed a life by then, I will put a set of 1200 heads on a 1000 bike. I believe it will run better.

good post eric wasnt trying to slam anything but i know what was going on with hooch no matter what you think about weather the carbs would run dry ..they did plain and simple facts ..i also know that skypilot and you both decided that the 1200 mod motor would be low on compression and both of you shaved the heads 40/1000 and your wrong cv carbs have to be made for a certain motor or they dont work good or have to be modified ..you yourself eric know this you cover vac holes up on your carbs to try and get them to operate right ..strait carbs dont have this problem at all you also tried different slide spring also to get to work ..and there no doubt that they are slower to react than a strait carb ..if your going to say something at least make it helpful info ..not a bunch blab that simply not true ...oh and thanks for the well wishes about me getting back or comong back after getting rear ended by a drunk driver going 150mph ..i am coming back hopefully and i hope you or anyone else never gets into what i got caught up into ...sheesh eric i have never once gone after you in any way ..but you always seem to try and treat me like an idiot who doesnt know what hes doing ..in truth ive come up more info parts mixing and bikes that perform better than others in oldwing country along with great help and suggestions from member here that made see something different than i was thinking at the time ..always been willing to have anyone see hooch run along with other bikes ive done ..two different meet and greets ..try all kinds of things ..and help many ..your post is just slamming discounts ..id love to have you be part of the classic way of operating formula to help people you have done some great work yourself to help others ..best to ya Eric

My first post in years and it’s just because you use my name and try to explain everything wrong. And in the end it comes back to your wonderful bike and how great it is . People can read my post or Steve’s posts and see for themselves. You’re the reason I left “classic” plain and simple. I really have appreciated the wealth of available knowledge here and the pretty well laid out site with as much available as any.

well i know i have my way of of doing things im not all over my bike blindly ..it really does impress me ..just a week or so the bike started right up after sitting 1 1/2yrs...with the old gas and all ,,,ill try harder myself to not rouse you Eric i really do admire the go for it way you do things as im that way too...we both did work most wouldnt try ..not all things work out ..part of getting something good is failure and knowing it ....so you can try something else ...as where you are at now trying the 1200 heads and cams to see how well that works basically stock motor against the modded motor ....at the time hooch was put together had had access to a great running 1200 standard bike 84 bike so i could ride one and then the other ...what i found was the standard 1200 ran a lot like the 1100s do ...rather lean down low in the rpm and could labor and knock some going up steeper grades like where i was living at the time ..and the hooch bike acted like it had the power down low like a farm tractor ...i never ran the 1200 standard super hard ..it wasnt my bike ...it was then i made my opinion on modded motor and standard ...

and at the time the hooch bike was not even close to a perfect dial in yet ...but it was plain to me then that carburation was the biggest hold back on the standard 1200 set up ...so to me if you got the carburation good...its likely the standard motor might perform much better than stock ..and might be everything the modded motor is maybe ...i will say when i shave the block down to the cylinder level it made a huge difference in the motor attitude and really started demanding gas the the bike was already maxed out to keep up with ...so im on the road to get more gas in the bowl from the proper feed rate the carb is set up for ...so we will see if this will be what the bike needs ..

but to be flat honest im not the kind of guy pumps up things to look good on forum period ....i just post what happens and if i do something i think is dumb i post that too ..welcome back Eric ..hope you hang out more here ...

hmmm I also seen over at NGW that someone I like a lot has built a 1200 mod motor like hooch ..1000 heads cam and 1200 motor and plans to put the weber carbs over the heads set up ….I wish him well ..hes very nice guy
