Former '82 GL1100 "The Slug"
Hey..I thought I would just check the Kelly Blue Book value to see if motorcycles show up. Not only do they show up, but it goes all the way back to our bikes! I was pleasantly surprised that the KBB value for a 1982 Standard was $2045! (Excellent condition). Of course, price is only what a buyer is willing to pay and a Seller is willing to let go off! Just the same, good info for insurance!

When you get a Classic Goldwing you get a lot of bike for the money. They make for the best project bike if your willing to wait for a deal. Many times since I got mine I wish I had the extra money to get some of those good deals. I've learned a lot from this forum :good: and through experience since getting my bike. My second bike....going naked :yes: .
 
Couldn't get rid of my first bike for that reason (the tupperware) and others. A second bike to be used for "puttin" around town would be nice. Hopping on my kids 82 V45 Sabre makes it seem like a sports car vs the Goldwing which is like a Cadillac. A sports car would be nice. A naked wing might come close. For those that have a naked wing, is the handling that much more nimble?

I had my Vetter fairing and rear bags off after replacing the tires and some electrical work. Took the bike out to check a few things and could not believe the difference in handling!!! The tupperware weight adds up! (Not doing without it...just making a point :hihihi: )

I would like to have a Standard just for getting around town!
 
that kelly blue book guy must not know how much money we have into our bikes bringing them back form the dead and our blood sweat and time we spent getting everything just right i would never let my 76 go for their price its mine mine mine :Egyptian:
 
I got lucky and made a deal with a guy for a 500 I had that he wanted worse than his GL1100 standard so now I have both a naked and a bagger Goldwing. Rode them both today. The Aspencade to the office with my computer in the trunk and the naked after work to go to the local cruise in. I dont have much money at all in any of my bikes, they are all other peoples junk that I have either restored or made repairs to get them running. The naked Wing does handle good and feels more nimble because of the lower weight but an Aspencade or Interstate will handle darn good when set up right and with good tires.
 
If you check, you will probably find out that most of the insurance companies use N.A.D.A. instead of Kelly Bluebook.

And the Honda Ridenow Stealership told me they would only give me $500 :crying: for mine when we tried to use it to get my son his first bike. A 'Wing is too big for a beginner to use. Wish I'ld a printed these out when I did that, just to see the look on the guys face when I refuted his offer!

I only considered the trade, cause I have been having trouble with my left leg lately, and really don't want to dump all that weight at a stoplight/sign and not be able to pick the darn thing up again. Even naked they weigh in at 600lbs. All the tupperware I removed brings it up to over 700lbs. :heat:
 
I recall talking with a dealer of "another brand" who had takne in an 1100 on trade. he finally sent it off to auction at a loss. when people ask me what something is worth I usually say, what you and the buyer can agree on!

We all know that if we were to just pic up an early wing, we can count on at least $500 in parts and then our own time in fixing it. But lets face it, they are 30 year old bikes and unless you know the seller, you cannot count on the seller having done any of the things that need to be done. and so I would figure.... timing belts, probably rebuild brakes, of course all the fluids, maybe a water pump, and how old are those tires??? maybe $500 is too low.

a couple of years ago I found a "barn bike" non-running, brakes frozen, tires old and flat, etc 1975 wing.... the lady thought she had a classic and wanted $900, I know these bikes and figure I was going to be in this $1000 to get it running (plus time) I offered her $200 (in all fairness I would have paid $300). She did not have a classic wing... she had a classic bucket of bolts that could be restored into a wing.

for those of us who have owned our wings forever (okay since August of 1978) of course I feel my wing is worth a whol lot more.... but then again I do not plan on selling it either
 
Well, I am not letting a running anything go for 500 bucks.
I am not that desperate for cash.

And you forgot the shocks and springs, There goes another $500.
