Guys, my '76 had a complete electrical failure.
A little checking found this little plastic box with a screw-in fuse element near the battery.
Of course the fuse element is fried.
I guess my main question is, what are people replacing that unit
with that has a commonly available fuse?
And what amperage is it?
I've never seen anything like this fuse, and it's probably not available anywhere.

Then, once I get a replacement, the next question will be,
WHY did it fry?
But I want to have some replacements available in case
it fries again.
Thanks guys.

I replaced mine with a 30 amp ATC fuse and holder.

Most of us have also replaced the "dogbone" fuse with the ATC type, inline fuse, 30amp. :good:
The dogbone fuse usually doesn't just pop from a short, tho it's possible. It usually fails due to old age/corrosion.
When mine kept giving me trouble, I had to do a quick & dirty road-side fix with what I had available, with the intent to do a proper repair once I got home. That was 3 years ago....and I still haven't done the proper repair. Hey...if it works...don't fix it, right? :smilie_happy:

btw...there is usually a spare dogbone fuse attached to the fuse holder from the factory.

I think that was the first thing I read about on my bike and the first thing I did to mine: never had that fuse blow yet. Second fix was the yellow wires.

I replaced the starter solenoid with one from a Honda CBR. Has a 30 amp modern plug fuse without the additional wiring.

That's slick, I'd like to see more posts/threads with fixes including CBR parts.

I had the same thing happen. someone once said duee to grounds corroded. But I tied it together like this an hoped no fire. No fires 2years later just installed the same thing
