I just got a 1983 Aspencde and do not know how to get the seat off. I am looking for an owners manual and do not know where to look on my bike or if my bike still has the manual.

Welcome to the forums! I'll tell ya how. Remove the trunk if you have one, next remove the two bolts(1 each side) towards the rear of the seat, then you slide the horn under the front out of it's holding bracket by sliding the seat back and up.

You will have full access to all our manuals after you make 5 posts. Simply respond in 5 threads, and you automatically get full access to all the tech. We do this for a reason, bla bla bla..

again Welcome!

Thanks Bob. I running down 101 from Portland to SF in a few weeks and looking forward to some time in your neck of the woods. I'll probably go back through the central part of the state and Mt. Shasta. Any sugestion abouyt spots for a good ride you have would be welcome.

my 83 aspy the seat will come off without removing the trunk, just remove two allen bolts towards rear of side of the seat, on the left side the bolt holds a spring and handle for adjustment of the seat forward and back. there are cutouts in the side bags under the rubber gasket to allow clearance for an allen wrench. You will need metric allen wrenches, by the way

Welcome to the CGW Forums!
The owner's Manual would normally be placed in the storage bin under the front lid of the fake fuel tank. If your's does not have the manual, and you want to get one, they have them on e-bay all the time really cheap. I think I paid $5 for mine. :good:

Don How many weeks do you have???? could take a month to get any where south of here if you want to sight see and enjoy rhe scenery! Also State Fair is on untill the 31st. The best thing I can suggest right now is use 101, get the most bang for your buck. I usualy go fishing at the Klamouth river just south of Cresent City. Between Cresent city and Eureka is a side road that takes you thorugh Prarrie Creek State Park where you can view a herd of Elk up close useally. Just below there is the red School house (on thr left, which usually has elk in the evenings. below eureka there is the Avanew of the Giants (the old highway with all the Redwoods). 101 goes through the GIANT RED WOODS (old highway) have friends in Maranda, I can usually stay at their place(just north of Garberville). Lots of eye candy and Pic ops if you are into that. At Leggett you cam make a choice to stay on 101 or follow 1 the coast highway (WOW). Just south of Willits I take 20 west around Clear Lake (Green lake now) to Williams and on to 5 (oh decisions, decisions which way to go??? Anyway you get the idea..Just pick a back road and enjoy....I could go no for hours.... and I usually do when I am riding.....The Gold country. the mountians, highway 49, the coast, Highway 20, delta river road.....I just can't stop planning....I just plan as i go....

Coooolll, great ideas! Deffinatly want to see the redwoods. I've got a detailed Califorinia map on the way and I'll start marking roads. No GPS for me. My bike knows the way. OK, if I really get lost the GPS will come out as a last resort.

Don don't forget your Oregon Coast...you have some great riding there too.. At Newport there is an aquriam that is actualy under water... there are some botanical garden spots some Great ocean views, the "Devils Punchbowl" In Tillamook there is the Cheese factoryand below Tillimuk there is an old blimp shed which has been turned into a air musiem(Tillamook Navel Air Museum) and the "Oregon Dunes" area, and somewhere (I think around Gold Beach) is a great cheese factory and an Ice cream place There are several light houses, Seal Rock and Sea Lion Caves But then you probably already know this. :good:
You could take 5 to Grants pass then 199 to 101 at Cresent City (while on 101 stop at rice hill for a good burger and great ice cream just south of the Curtin/Drain exit) It is almost Sacraligous to not stop at rice hill if you are on 5 that is my story and i am sticking to it...Let me know what your plans are and just mabe, if all falls into place I will be able to meet up with you (need to finish my repairs on the 80. Just spit and polish getting it ready for sale

Thanks Bob. I plan on leaving around the 22nd or 23rd. I have tickets for Giants games on the 29-31st and will be staying in Berkley. After that I turn around

and go home. My keyboard wasn't working for a while, but that means I can continue my last post with a follow-up post and I believe this is five posts now.
