If your like me then you would love to be able to utilize your digital music library on your old wing. Maybe you've tried the casset deck rout, the fm transmitter rout, or even thought about installing a brand new head unit to gain the capability. Personally I really like the idea of keeping the stock radio on the bike. My tape deck is suspect at best and fm transmitters have to constantly be adjusted as you travel, not safe. Well, I have a solution. Send your unit to Sierra Electronics and have them take care of it for you!

I just got mine back. They remove the tape deck and install the cord for you. They can also make any basic repairs you may need. It cost me $124 to have the work done. May seem high to some until you start to factor in the cost of a brand new unit that does not work with the CB radio and doesn't appear factory. Plus, you save yourself the headache of possibly creating more electronic issues on a bike that can already be problematic.

I just figured I would share this info with all of you. Perhaps Dan would like to put Sierras contact link in the vendors portion of the forum. They work on all types of factory electronics. Great people.

How does it work?

That seems awful expensive, just to retain the stock appearance. I bought a deck for my car for $110 that does Bluetooth, usb, cd, mp3, three pre amp outputs. I personally wouldn't spend a cent on an old outdated radio.

Why not keep the old on in there and hide a new nice one in a saddlebag? Lol you could brobably fit some good speakers in the bags too! lol

So did they just update the radio with mp3 capability or did they go through it and get it all up to par? I'm not a fan of music on any bike really but it seems a nice option at a decent price.

Good to know, I am the same way about keeping it factory. I just cant remove the factory am/fm unit or drill/cut anything on the bike, was thinking of one of those FM MP3 units but it sounds like it would be a waste of money..true?

I spent only $14 more than that and my stereo is right in front of me, instead of in a bag with no access while traveling. I don't wanna fumble with CDs and various devices when I ride. I just wanna put my iPod on shuffle and go.

They removed the tape deck and installed a 3.5mm aux chord tgat plugs into the phone. The power button now toggles from FM radio and the aux imput on about 3' of cord.

Dunno about the radio reception yet. I got the mod done so I don't have to listen to the radio. Lol

I think the fm transmitter is a cheap temp solution. This is more of a permanent mod to factory equipment. On my aspy the radio pops right out with the turn of a key. Just dropped it in the mail, cost me $6 to ship it. They fix anything that is broken for less than a new stereo of any real quality costs. Then when it comes back u just drop it in place and enjoy. Much better than rigging up some Jensen head unit in ur bag...

I don't even have to touch the radio in my car. It turns on with the ignition, connects with Bluetooth to my phone and starts playing. Selecting Pandora, mp3's and any other cell phone sound I want. plus it has a usb port and auxiliary port (like the one you had installed essentially) I can also run the navigation voice via phone etc.

I can see wanting it all to look stock, but technology is fun too.

I would run a FM transmitter as well.

Its not as much of the stock look that I am trying to maintain, although that is an added bonus imo. On the 84 aspencade there is a pretty significant wiring harness that plugs into the back of the radio that would have to be gone through. The radio is not only a radio but also has controls for CB. If it was as simple as a car stereo swap, yes, I would make that swap no problem. But this is an animal I do not really want to start carving on if I can avoid it.
