My Bike Models
1981 GL1100 Innerstate("The Turd")SOLD!!, 1996 GL1500 Innerstate
I finally broke down and bought me some new stuff....or rather, I finally convince Mama I needed some new stuff...
Got me a new 3/4 helmet, a balaclava, and some new boots, as well as new exhaust gaskets for the bike.
New helmet...hmmm...really wanted to try one of those modular thangs, but they dint have one I liked, nor in the color I wanted. I wound up with a Vega NT 200, in a semi-closetowhatIwanted color. It has pockets for com devices, which works well for my bluetooth. Fits pretty good, but I need to put some time in it to get it to feel better. The flip-up shield is integrated, so it fits nice and snug up against the sides, unlike the set-up I have been using. It is a little heavier than the Cyber 3/4 that I have been wearing, but not much..maybe a few ounces. Just hope it keeps my brains enclosed in my skull, should the occasion call for it to do so.

The balaclava is a fleece lined item, "one-size-fits-all". Seems fairly warm just puttin it on. The idea is to keep my jaws/cheeks from freezing solid this winter, so I can ride a little longer once it gets cold....and it's getting there now. Been in the lo 50's yesterday and today, and predictions of 40's for the AM. brrr.

New boots came from Redwing. Slip ons, with no zipper to mess up, as the zippers on my Hardly boots did within a couple of months. Also, the Redwings have some cushioning inside that the Hardly boots did not, so I might actually be able to walk more than 3-4 steps without my tootsies hurting....

I felt like a kid at Christmas yesterday once we got home! :yahoo: 'Course...we had to buy Mama something, too... :good: :eek:k:

New gear is always fun! Helmets are tough though. Just when ya thought ya found the one you like, you find out it's out of production, or they don't carry that make! Enjoy the new toys! :Egyptian:

Got to put the new stuff to the test this mernin. Low 50's, so it weren't too cold, but, the combo of the new helmet, and balaclava werked GREAT! My head/cheeks stay fairly toasty on the ride.
The new boots, however, might be a problem.... :whistling: Seems the large, chunky, tractor tread bottom(soles) wants to get stuck on the toe part of the shifter when downshifting. Kinda scary a couple of times, especially when d-shifting to stop. I'mma gunna hafta figure out either sumptin to put on the shifter pad, or grind down some of the tread on the sole of the left boot.
Otherwise, I'm happy with my new purchases. The helmet definitely keeps more wind off my face, but it also muffles a lot more noise....including my radar defector. Good thing it has really bright flashing LEDS on it!! The balaclava was the perfect piece I needed to be able to ride a little farther into the winter months. Before, if the temps got below around 55 or so, I just couldn't do it, my face would be freezin.
Anyway...my riding season has been extended a little....and that's a GUD thang!! :clapping: :yahoo:
