Hi everybody!
First post here -- I've been trolling around all week, and picked up my "new" 1981 Goldwing this afternoon. it's a non-runner, and the DPO tried to "fix" it by tearing off the left head and removing the valves  . I'm not sure he even knows how to check his own oil, so what he thought he'd accomplish in there is totally beyond me.
This will be a little bigger untertaking for me than I've tackled to-date, but I'm not afraid to go after it. I did a ground-up restoration on my wife's vintage Vespa a few years ago, am in the middle of an engine overhaul on my Aprilia, and also have an old Triumph TR6 (car) in a thousand pieces undergoing a frame-off resto-mod. The Goldwing just kind of fell in my lap -- I don't really need another project, but I couldn't resist.
I tried to post a pic, but I guess I need to run up my post count a little first...

The color is Cosmic Black Metallic. It's not really "black", is it? My son says it looks more like a dark blue or green. It is strange, I'll admit, and if I could have picked I'd prefer the Wineberry but for what I paid I won't complain. The only real issue with it is the left side cover has a big crack in it that was repaired with some sort of epoxy that seems to be holding, but the bottom mountingmpin is broken off and was repaired rather amateurishly by drilling a hole in the stud and bolting it back in place. So I guess I'll be looking for a replacement at some point...

Hello steve81gl100 and welcome to CGW. Sounds like you got a lot of stuff going on at once, you will find some good info on the 81 wing here and a lot of good folks to go with it.

welcome Steve, it sure does sound like your plate is full, and that's quite a project to start out with, I haven't had to change the heads yet, sounds like fun.. :Egyptian:

My '82 is (was) Cosmic Black Metallic and it is a real cool color out in the sun! The metallic kinda bends the light a little making it look more greenish than black at times. However, I painted it with a Duplicolor gloss black and I can really see the difference now on parts that I have on the garage floor that did not get back on the bike. :crying:

If I had my choice, I would have repainted the bike with the original color.

Since my pic posting capabilities are now fixed, here's one to look at. This is after rolling it off the trailer and giving it a quick bath to get the leaves, grass clippings, and other garage grunge off of it:

I later buffed up the paint a bit and did some polishing on the chrome just to see if it would respond to that, which it did beautifully. I'll do much more of that once the engine is sorted. There will also need to be a fair amount of aluminum clean-up on the engine as you can see from the corrosion on the cam cover here. I'll get to that...

Now that is a good looking Standard! (What a real motorcycle should look like!) Exposed engine, swept back handlebars, reasonable King/Queen seat, I like it!!!!! :clapping:
