Hi everyone, my name is Brian and I have been fixing up old bikes that others had given up on for the past 6 years. My first was a '49 Royal Enfield J2, then a '71 BSA A65, followed by a '77 Suzuki GS750 and a '79 GS850. Those 2 Suzukis gave me an appreciation of the quality and engineering excellence in Japanese bikes.

My last bike was a new '09 Kawasaki Versys. It was excellent but required no fixing so it bored me. So I just bought my first Goldwing; a 1981 GL1100 standard. It is a real fixer-upper. It had rear-ended a car so the forks are bent and the upper triple tree broken. The front tire had come back and contacted the radiator so it is toast too. The PO had bought new triple trees and a new radiator but just never got around to fixing the bike. I am a sucker for a lost cause so I bought it.

I hope you don't mind a lot of question because I will need all the help I can get.

Thanks
Brian

Welcome to a great forum.

Been to Banff and Lake Louise also and saw my first live wild bear on the way to Jasper. We also went up the Glaciers at Columbine Ice Field. What an experience.

Hey if you like your 'new' mayor I can tell you he is my cousin. If not, I don't know the dude. Naheed's Mom is my favorite Untie.

Below is my first GL1100 that I fixed up. I sold it and regretted it and promptly bought another one. The guys here have helped me a lot.

Mayor Nenshi is very popular in Calgary and I like him a lot. A breath of fresh air compared to the typical politicians.

Your bike looks a lot like mine especially the first picture. Nice job.

Is it an '81?

It was a 1982 GL1100 interstate that the PO had removed all the fairing and had basically just chopped up all the wiring.
After I sold it I promptly bought another 1982 GL1100 that I have enjoyed 'fixing' up. This bike runs and shifts very well. The only remaining issue is a bad Neutral Light switch that does not effect the bike's operation in any way.

Young Mayor Nenshi is quite smart--he was a nerd growing up and always had his face in a book. While the rest of us were running around destroying stuff he would look at us like we were crazy. We as an immigrant community to North America are very proud of him. I hope he continues being a good leader.

The guys on this forum are awesome and down to earth. I had no wrenching abilities but have learned a lot from these guys and I slowly have gained a lot of confidence.
