Hi everyone.

I have been lurking around for about a month. Finally decided to introduce myself. My name is Brad and I own an 86 Interstate. My father in-law bought it brand new and he gave it to his daughter and I on our first wedding anniversary when he bought a 2004 goldwing. I owned a 79 wing with Vetter fairing, Bates bags, and Calafia trunk at the time. Loved the 79, but really loved the 86. More power, better handling, and better MPG.

We have been to the Grand Canyon, Deal's Gap, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Colorado on this goldwing.

Stator went out about 5 years ago west of Medicine Lodge Kansas. A friend and I replaced the stator and my MPG went from 40 to 46! About 2 years ago I went to downshift on the way home from work and all I heard was grinding in any gear. It has been sitting in my garage since and I'm ready to start tearing into it to see what is wrong.

BTW, Very nice forum you all have here. Best one I have seen.

Welcome to the CGW Forums, bperschnick!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Sounds like you definitely have a trans problem....that sure sux, but I was confused as to which bike it was that had the trans problem....the '79, or the '86.

Don't mind me...I'm easily confused! :smilie_happy:

Hello Brad. Sounds to me you have some serious wrenching to do. I'd check it over not running to see if it shifts. Might be an issue with the clutch or final drive instead of the transmission.
