First Goldwing was a '79 GL1000 with Vetters purchased around 1992. My new bride wanted a more comfortable ride than the Suzuki 750 3-cyl, so she suggested a Wing. WOW! Then we joined a Wing group and eventually moved up to a 1500. Had that bike from '97 to 2011. It was getting heavier and I was getting shorter. So decided to downsize to a cruiser. Nice bike but not me. Sold a few weeks ago, thought I would give up riding. Lasted 2 weeks and then went on the hunt. Found a 1982 GL1100, Wineberry, with Vetters in my price range (low) that was better than most bikes around here, but still needs a good cleanup. Now I will read all the tips and advice you can share. Planning to "ride and restore". Thanks.

Hey Blacklander,

I just got a '82 1100 interstate. Nice ride. It's too bad you're in Ohio, I removed EVERYTHING; bags, trunk, faring, all mounting hardware. I'm probably going to trash it all. (I realize I'm assuming factory bag set-up > Vetter bag set-up).

Congrats on scoring a 82. I think you meant that post to go to 82ohiowing. My screen name is b-A-cklander, no L in it and I'm from Arkansas. No harm,no foul, just clarifying. You might be able to sell some of that plastic you removed. Have fun with your new ride.

Greetings from the Sunshine State.

Live long and prosper. God bless you.

Welcome from Indiana! These people are worth their weight in gold. No pun intended. They will try and help you. We don't get that kind of help from the dealers around here.

Thanks for all the welcomes!
Maybe it's nostalgia that makes me like the Vetter look on these bikes. Our first Wing had the Vetters and it was neat to remove the saddle bags and use them as "luggage". It also reminds me of the classic 70's bikes that have had fairings and bags added on for the occasional road trip. My first bike was a '75 Honda CB350F, then a CB750 with Windjammer and trunk. We got the 1500 because it was such a great traveling bike and was built to be that way. The Hondaline equipment looks more "permanent" and gives it a "King of the Road" look, even though at this stage it can still be removed. Now I have something I can have either way. Leave the side bags on for carrying stuff, or take them off (with the turn of a key) to save weight and still have the great Goldwing machine underneath.
Pictures will be coming next week (when it hopefully stops raining).
