new speakers

What watts will the radio take.The hondas say 20 watt on the speaker.How high can you go before blowing anything. Thanks .They are for an 82 Aspencade

I know they need to be 4 ohm speakers. I tried several wattage speakers on my 82 and they all distorted badly, the trouble is the ancient 32 year old radios themselves.

Yeah ~O~ know what you mean... iirc the speaker in my 55 Chevy was a 3 ohm one... when replacing the speakers match the ohms... when you go to 8 ohm from a 4 ohm system.. you gotta turn it up louder to hear it and then you start to overdrive the radio finals... there are places where you can order the gl1500 rear speakers that are a fit for the 11 and 12's front ones... about $20 or thereabouts
