Hi everybody. Just got signed up and am looking forward to using this site to get my gl1000 on the road. I bought my 1978 1000 as a project bike in boxes. the engine and the mechanicals were still on the bike but lots of other stuff taken off. I just got my carbs off and am in the process of cleaning them. What a mess. 10 year old gas is tough to get out. With lots of patience and time, I am gradually getting them cleaned. things look pretty good past the bowls. a few clogged jets. once I have it torn down enough, I am going to boil them in lemon juice. from what I have read, lots of guys swear by it. then carb cleaner and lots of compressed air. I will try to post some pics soon. Thanks for having me and I look forward to using this site and meeting some of the members. :salute:

Welcome to the fun. I've read the lemon juice procedure but it is acidic and stinks bad. I prefer to soak my carbs in automatic trans mission fluid. Messy but not harming anything.

Welcome from another Southern Californian! Best of luck with those carbs! My '83 had 10 year-old gas in it, and green goo in the carbs, but they cleaned up nicely.

Keep us posted on your project...
