I'm slowly rebuilding a set of carbs for my '83 substandard (poorly dressed). I got the complete kit from Randaaks (wow). I did get info from Roady's tutorial that wasn't in the randaak book! But the question is...wait for it...Is it OK to use a Sylglide grease from my brake servicing kit on the O-rings in the carb? I would like to avoid damaging a hard-to-find, expensive o-ring.

Sounds like it's a clear grease like dielectric or petroleum jelly. It's probably okay. I use petroleum jelly on almost all my O rings and never had an issue. I would ask the manufacturer of the sylglide to be certain.

+1 on Vaseline :good:

Silicon grease also works well to keep things moist and in place upon assembly.

I have used several Randakk kits and IMHO they just cant be beat. Very nice stuff. On a side note his brake lines are also top notch.

Anything i've ever seen of his is the same quality, superb! :good:  Only thing about silicone grease i don't like, if you are sloppy with it, could maybe be a problem later if it & some dirt falls into internals & plugs. :hi:
