I am selling a very nice 2007 meanstreak. The goal is to buy another goldwing.Or trade. One guy is talking about trading for an 81.1100's are plentiful. My bike is worth about $3500.I have never seen a 1100 that would be that high. Not sure what kind of a deal would be good for me.There is even a 1500 here for 3200.

07 meanie is worth a good bit more than any GL1100. Nice 1500 is comparable. Pair of GL1200s might be comparable. Valkyrie is in the price range.

I have an '81 1100 we are restoring for resale. Since getting the bike, I have been watching Craig's list and Ebay for the final selling prices (where possible) for 1100 Standards. I have been pleasantly surprised to see good condition, ready to go (no additional work required) Standards selling for $2500 to $3500.

thanks guys.A friend of mine who is more expert than I am says stay away from anything 1200. Of course he rides an 82 1100. He said the 1200 had more problems mechanically and are more prone to stator failure.I dont know if that's true but pulling a motor to replace one is not something I want to do.Nor do I know how to check the charging system before buying. My sum total bike mechanic experience is replacing brakes, starters, and one rebuil of a 1980 gs1000 inline four cylinder.

Your friend should be reading here. Plenty of threads here have discussed the checking of stator health. The Meanie is a nice bike. Why not buy the wing of your choice and learn the ins and outs of repairs and maintenance through the forum over time?

i love my 1200. all the repairs are done by me. i have owned 5 1200s never a problem with any of them. i owned an 1100 also 82 model. you just cant wear them out. just my 2 cents.

I have been rebuilding/refurbishing my '85 Limited Edition fuel injected GW over the past year. Parts are available, but sometimes you have to be creative. Honda made/makes a very robust FI system and even though many parts have been discontinued, there are work arounds, and interchangeability with Honda cars is a viable option. Any older bike is going to have issues regardless of the manufacturer. Not unlike owning an older car, some are better supported than others.

There can be electrical issues with these bikes, and this is not specific to Honda. There are parts available to address any issue a person may have with an electrical issue as well as some creative modifications.

Slabghost is correct, peruse this and the other forums regarding older Honda's, buy your bike of choice and have fun.

Cheers

If you grow any interest in an '81 1100, ours will be ready in about two weeks and it will be ready to ride! Here is a pic of cleaning up the paint while we work on the carbs:

Thanks for the replies.I owned an 88 and 2 96 goldwings.Very heavy bikes.Too much so for continued intown riding in my opinion. The 4 cylinder wings are a little lighter. The one shown here that is being fixed up is naked, about 100 pounds lighter.I was very active on the naked goldwing forum.Great guys, but their focus is stripping everything down.I do not mind having a full tour version and the 1500 is greatly benefitted by having reverse.I owned 3 ventures, and ultra classic, a valkyrie, and several 800-900 cc cruisers. I have never actually ridden a 4 cylinder goldwing.I need to do that before persuing further. My friend never rides his because now he rides a nighthawk 750 and his isnt roadworthy.I am in denton texas and know noone else here that rides a 1100.Only based on my personal opinion, but to me the 4 cylinder goldwing is what a goldwing is supposed to be.Honda lost its way when they got bigger and heavier and wrapped in plastic.Millions of sales says otherwise.I still cannot afford an 1800.I test rode one in 2001.I was up to 120mph before i knew it.

We intend to list it for $3000. I actually could not ride it down to Tx(as much as I would want to!). I would not be able to get the time off plus the plane ticket to get back. However, the deal I may be getting from Ebay seems to include access to a shipping company for moving bikes around the country. Additional cost for sure.
