Hey Joe, you will appreciate this and it might make your wood chopping life easier!! (Caveman tech at it's best!)

I chopped a bit of wood in the past and always found a very cold winters day the best time to split wood! The wood practically splits itself!

thats a toy gerry .... i could never get the wood to be still on it ...from laughing at the device.....

I know you have serious timber Joe by your block splitter. When we used to burn wood at our old house I preferred it to be dead and dry so I didn't have to wait to burn it. Nothing worse than not hitting hard enough and then having to lift the log and the block splitter to complete your split ( then wishing that you had made the log smaller :smilie_happy: ) We built this house about 3 miles from our old house where we used to burn a box trailer of wood a week during winter ( helped get rid of all the dead crap on the 5 acres) and the new one is above the frost line so we no longer have a wood heater. Unfortunately we have heaps of good fire wood but no need for it. Nothing lets you know that you are still alive like splitting firewood by hand..
And I must admit the wood in the video looked like you could split it easily with a tomahawk...

Yo Joe, I am impressed that you are doing it by hand. In a bar fight I want you on my side. Any place close by you could rent a splitter? Its amazing how much wood you can split in one day with one. How cold do winters get where you live?

I think the key phrase is "in my day". Hydraulics is a beautiful thing, especially for us fossil types. Might be cheaper than the Ben-Gay costs.

sheesh nice cool day today out to the wood splitter for me ..... been kinda hot lately ....not sure the coolness will last to long today ....

i am hoping to get close to done with the big pile in the pic behind house ... then get another load LOL
