Q: Piston Ring Indentification (CL125A)

I need to rely on the well of oldwinger knowledge base.

I bought NOS HAP JONES piston kit for my '68 CL125A.

I need to identify 1st and 2nd piston rings.

Q1. The side with letters on it goes upward, right?

Q2. I see two different non-oil rings.

One has a step like this:

The other doesn't have a step.

Which one is the top (1st) ring?

Top ring is square the second has the step, yes both writing up.
