It has been said we reap what we sow. I haven’t been able to ride for a while but this week I’m back in the saddle in more ways than one. My commute home takes me up highway 132 through a little town called La Grange (biker bar hangout). It is real popular with the Cruiser riders, I stay out of bars so I don’t stop there.

I stopped for gas prior to leaving town and heading home. Two Harley guys were gassing up at the same place. They started in with the rice burner comments. One of them said it is a shame I couldn't afford a decent bike, I had to chuckle over that one, but let it go.

For me I don’t care what anyone rides, old, new, it doesn't matter, it is about loving motorcycles. Well they took off ahead of me and I figured that would be the last I seen of them. As I got up to Lake Don Pedro, (where I live) here these two were, one with a flat tire. Now I could have just kept on going, I was less than two miles from home, but I figured I would teach these guys a lesson in courtesy. I stopped and asked if they needed any help, “You got a tire patch kit was the answer.”

I told them I could plug the tire as long as it wasn't cut. We found he had picked up a small screw. I told them I would be back in a few minutes, went home and through my portable air compressor in the truck, went back and plugged their tire, and aired it up. Then told the guy he really needed to get the tire repair properly. They both did thank me and offer to pay me. I told them to just pay it forward sometime, even if it's a rice burner broke down. They both laughed and we got to talking and all in all they were pretty good guys. The one finally asked me why I stopped since they were messing with me at the gas station. I told them it wasn't about attitudes, it was about helping someone out that was in need, and even guys that ride rice burners can do that. Hopefully it made a positive impression on these guys.

Nevr understand the reasoning for that kind of talk, we are all bikers and the wing is made in the USA, Forign parts maybe but it put allot of Americans to work.
Good on you for helping.

Hopefully they pay it forward.

I got stuck on the freeway once when a heater coolant control in my van blew apart.
It was getting dark.
Hood up, a guy stopped. Surprised me anyone would stop during the home rush.

He asks if I needed any help.
I told him I think I got it as I struggled with not enough light from the flashlight.
I look back thinking he's left and here he comes with a cig lighter flood plugged into his car.
He held that light for me til I was done.

It brings a tear to find there are still some really cool people out there still.

I have since payed it forward many times.
I hope those 2 Harley dudes do.

Thanks for the responses, I have had people help me out in the past, and it is nice to pay if forward when we can. Lets face it the motorcycle community is a diverse one to say the least. Hopefully I left a good impression with these guys and that is all I cared to do.
Speaking of riding and our the forum, have really missed this forum, and riding. It feels so good to be back in the saddle and where I live this is just a great time of the year to ride.

Amazingly enough, the one time I was broke down on the side of the freeway, several folks stopped to see if I needed help....which is amazing, considering I'm in Dallas. Also, once I had pulled off under a bridge to put on my rain gear, and some cutie pulled over and asked if everything was ok, and if I needed help.
Sadly, I rarely stop to check on riders when I'm cagin it, and I'm ashamed to say it. I will check on them while on the 'Wing, tho. Is that wrong? :headscratch:

I wouldn't say that is wrong, we all get gut feelings and we need to pay attention to them. I while back I was moving some wood, I had a gut feeling I shouldn't be doing it with my hands. I didn't listen and got nailed by not one but two rattlesnakes. I knew better and didn't listen to that gut feeling and really paid for it.
