REMOVED FAIRING AND NEED HEADLIGHT HELP!

Hey all.

I bought a 1981 Honda GL1100 and removed the Vetter fairing. When I tried to put a standard headlight back on it the plugs were different. The factory headlight has a 3 prong male and the wire that is for the headlight has a completely different female plug. Would they have cut and put that on for the aftermarket Vetter fairing?

Has anyone encounter this, and how did you solve it?

Look a little deeper in the wiring. Vetter harness connects to the original 3 prong female headlight plug.

Another question. The headlight bucket I bought (ebay), has 2 holes in it, not one. Does that sound like it is from a wing?

I can't recall just now how many holes are on mine but I'll look tomorrow. I don't think it will matter much though.Two holes would make it easier to get wiring in.

Here is a pic of the wiring. I checked to see if there was a plug and it looks like here hard wired it in...

boy arnt you in it deep ....the other end of the vetter wiring has to unplug or apart for headlight turn signals ...do you have front signals to put on yet

No. Need to get those as well. I think i will have to buy headlight plug wiring and splice it

yep it can be a pain sometimes backing up from vetter to standard

No follow that harness you had in your hand back to the bike wiring. That harness is for the vetter fairing. It comes out for stock lights.

I hope it's a plug-n-play for you, but the Vetter I've worked on had the wiring cut and spliced into the original harness. If this is the case with yours, there are plenty of original harnesses on ebay, and cheap! You might have to do a bit of cutting and splicing, but it's fairly simple wiring.

Normally, the Vetter harness wires right into the original wiring. (Mine is, headlight plug and all) But some people cut out the wires to make everything else permanent. I am grateful that mine are still original since I am also taking off my Vetter fairing in the very near future, but making sure I keep it so that it can be put back on for fall and winter riding.
