I have been very happy using Seafoam to keep my carbs clean in the past by adding some to the gas or when wanting to clean up the lower part of the engine by adding it to oil (for cleaning purposes only and only right before changing the oil.)

Well, I thought it worked so well in my carbs and engine in the past, I might try to clean up that grimy, 2 stroke weed whacker. Oh...it cleaned it up alright! Took the lubricity right out of the oil! :shock: :oops: :cheeky:

It is a very cool (and humbling) sound to listen to a high speed engine grind itself to a stop before realizing it was not running out of gas......... :oops: :rant:


Anyone need a slightly used, overheated, 2 stroke weed whacker with slightly scored cylinder walls??? :swoon: :smilie_happy:

How much did ya put in there, Gerry?!?!? :shock: Dang cabatater ain't as big as a thimble...piston ain't much bigger!! :hihihi:

For future reference. A tiny spritz of carb cleaner is okay on the tiny two stroke if sprayed through the fuel line and allowed to dry a little. I use WD40 mostly to clean them and as a start spray. I also put in about 3 caps full of ATF in the mix. In my one gallon can. This has kept my weedeaters and chain saws going nice for a very long time. My little homelite chainsaw was originally purchased by my grandfather second hand. Still runs nice.

Sounds like the Seafoam broke down the lubricity of the the 2 stroke oil.
Sounds bad to use it in a crankcase then!
I think this comment warrants further discussion.

If the mix was precise as recommended by the manufacturer. I think the Seafoam did indeed dilute the mix. They (the manufacturer) advise just enough 2 stroke oil with gasoline. I don't think their formulation takes ethanol into account either so the mix of ethanol and Seafoam simply diluted the mix beyond it's limits. Just my thoughts on it.

How much did you mix in with the gas/oil mix?
About a capful to the tank.
