Over on the GSResourses forum there is some discussion about replacing the shunt type regulator/rectifier (R/R), that is used on most older MCs, with a series type. :read: :headscratch:

The one that seems popular is SH775 from a CBR1000RR.

As I understand it, it adds life to the whole charging system because with a series system only the required load current is flowing rather than max current as with a shunt setup. Has anyone any thoughts on this for our oldwings :fishin:

Yes, a few around here have done it. most late 90`s and later bikes use the mosfet regulator. It is said to be a definite improvement and a fairly easy swap.

Dan, is a mosfet a series R/R or a more modern shunt? :thanks:
The mosfet is like your describing, usually has the designation fh before the number the shunt type has the sh designation as I recall.

Looks good to me. Might be a good investment to extend the life of my stator.
:good: on my gunna list for the Rats Nest

i have just done this mod, after a fair bit of discussion with Tony ( Ansimp ) he pointed me in the right direction to obtain the right one. fully imported, at a competitive price....
here is the one i used, ( i bought a couple of them ) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271816496217 ... EBIDX%3AIT
and here it is fitted. no problems. three yellow wires, two green and two red. doesnt matter which way round they go, as long as they match. :smilie_happy: one new plug and slap on a bit of dialectric grease, will never have to touch it.... :music:
