Sorry to hear about your troubles..I know because I have had streaks of bad luck myself.
I would really like to know how nails that would normally lay flat can stand up and at just the right angle mind you then penetrate a fairly stiff tire?.
They must have a life of their own out there.

Normally I use punctures as an indication my tires are getting near the end of their life. Nothing worse than new tires getting destroyed. My daughter had a first hand experience with a 1/2" wrench destroying a tire for her which was brand new, no of us could figure how it managed to penetrate the tire. I have lost a few new ones over the years screwdriver, nails, tek screws and rocks ( the dreaded driveway). I hope that you can get it sorted Mike and make the run..

:crying: :Awe: Someone needs one of these...

I know the frustration of having a new tire punctured like that.....it SUX!

one of what??????

:head bang: The image has been repaired....sorry...

Dang Mike that is a nail! I guess I was lucky enough to find the nail (or more correctly the staple) in my front tire early enough that I could still get a new tire shipped to me and then installed with time to spare.

Actually I'm glad it wouldn't hold air, the puncture was well outside the safe repair area and I fear your luck could have been much worse. Little inconvenient but much safer !!

As for the bell it must work because my neighbor's cow wears one and she always seems happy !! I imagine it would be awkward tied around your neck and if you tie it somewhere else it might turn you into a soprano when it catches the bedpost at night, be careful with it.

That was funny 1060 :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: I ordered a new tire 30 mins after I decided that one was beyond hope but unfortunately it won't be here in time for me to mount it and make the 650 mile trip to joe's on time. The tire won't arrive until the 1st day of August.

On the subject of the Stop-N-Go patch plug kit, it is of excellent construction and works very well. The tools in the kit are pro quality as far as I'm concerned and I believe I would trust it much more than the rope type kits. You can also get the kits with the CO2 cartridges if you don't carry a compressor. Like I stated before, the plug didn't leak air after I fixed the original nail hole. When I break it down, I'm going to put a patch on the inside on the sidewall, mount it on an old wheel and use it as a mock up assembly for some of my upcoming builds. I doubt if I will ever wear it out with it sitting on a lift table. :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

I realize this is an old thread, but....Mike...did you get the Stop n Go kit and use it, and if so, how did it work out for ya? I'm tinkin aboot gettin one meself, considering the trouble I've had with rear tires in the past couple of years.

Yes I got the Stop & Go Kit, real quality built piece of equipment. I used it on the new tire that got the nail in it. If you remember, the nail went in and actually punctured slightly thru the sidewall just above the rim edge. I took the tire to the tire shop and had the sidewall booted and remounted. When I got it home, I plugged the nail hole in the tire and it held air for probably a month before it leaked down but did not go completely flat. I punched the plug out and replugged it after cleaning the hole out better and it held air for several months until just the other day when I deflated it and removed it from Atila, the project bike. I HAVE NOT run the tire, it has only been mounted on the bike and sitting on the motorcycle jack. The kit is very compact and I think it works great, all you want to do is get the bike home and save being stranded or the cost of a wrecker. You can make 25 plugs with the kit I got and you can order more plugs really cheap. I intend to run this tire that I patched as a test when I get Atila completed. I think it would be a wise investment.
