My speedo is making some noise. I searched "speedometer" here on the forums but didn't find anything on any possible maintenance, or if one can get some lube in there or something. My speedo is a junkyard pick, meaning many hot summers of disuse, then back in service for me(over 2 years now).

Can one simply squirt some WD-40 up in thar? Where the cable plugs in that is... :headscratch:

You can but WD40 is a lousy lube and dries quickly. First I'd be certain the cable is well oiled and then maybe spray some penetrating oil up in the speedometer. Or remove the gage and put in a few drops light oil like 3in1.

I had a noisy tach which I thought was the drive cable but cleaning and lubing didn't help. I tried twice to blow 3 in 1 oil up into the tach with a bendable drinking straw with no luck. Finally I removed the tach and dripped four or five drops directly onto the drive bushing, it's stayed quiet for a year now.

I've had to do both my speedo and tach they where doing the needle dance. I pulled them off and turned them upside down and let the oil run down into the hole that was about 2 years ago and now I'm starting to get a little movement on the speedo needle at around 65.
